Liverpool Must Not Let Andrew Robertson Leave After Wolves Performance

8 Mar

After Liverpool’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night, one thing became very clear: Andrew Robertson still has plenty to offer at Liverpool FC.

With competition for the left-back spot increasing since the arrival of Milos Kerkez, Robertson is no longer guaranteed to start every match. But his performance against Wolves showed exactly why Liverpool would be making a mistake if they allowed him to drift toward the end of his contract without securing his future.

A Goal That Showed His Quality

Robertson opened the scoring with an excellent strike from distance, a moment that reminded everyone of his technical ability. Goals are not something you typically expect from a full-back, but Robertson has always been capable of producing moments of quality when Liverpool need them.

It was also an important goal in the context of the match, helping Liverpool take control and settle into their rhythm.

Still Dangerous Going Forward

Robertson has built his reputation on his relentless attacking play, and that was on full display again. His assist for Mohamed Salah’s goal highlighted exactly what he still brings to the team.

Timing his run perfectly, Robertson overlapped down the left before delivering a dangerous ball that helped create Liverpool’s second goal. Even with new competition in the squad, his ability to get forward, create chances and stretch opposition defences remains a major weapon.

Leadership Liverpool Cannot Lose

Perhaps Robertson’s most important quality is something that cannot easily be replaced: leadership.

Over the years he has become one of the dressing room’s strongest personalities, setting standards on and off the pitch. His experience, work rate and mentality are qualities younger players in the squad benefit from every day.

Players like Robertson are often just as valuable behind the scenes as they are on the pitch, especially in a squad that is constantly evolving.

He Still Deserves a Role

While Kerkez may currently be the first-choice left-back, that does not mean Robertson should be pushed aside. Liverpool play a huge number of games every season, and having two high-quality options in the same position is a strength, not a problem.

Performances like the one against Wolves prove that Robertson can still make a big impact when called upon.

If anything, Liverpool should be looking to extend his contract and keep his experience within the squad, rather than risk losing a player who still clearly has so much to offer.

Friday night was a reminder of something Liverpool fans have known for years: Andrew Robertson remains a vital part of this team.
