Liverpool Blow as Alisson Misses Galatasaray Trip – Mamardashvili to Start

9 Mar

Liverpool will be without their first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the trip to face Galatasaray in Turkey after the Brazilian picked up a knock in training.

According to Paul Gorst, Alisson pulled up with an issue during Monday’s training session and will not travel with the squad. While the severity of the problem is not yet clear, Liverpool will be keen not to take any risks with their number one.

That means Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to deputise between the posts. The Georgian goalkeeper now has the chance to step in on a big European night and show exactly why Liverpool have placed such faith in him.

Alisson has been a crucial figure for Liverpool for several seasons, often producing match-saving moments when the team has needed them most. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, particularly in what is expected to be a hostile atmosphere in Istanbul.

However, Mamardashvili is widely regarded as one of the most promising goalkeepers in European football, and this could be the perfect opportunity for him to make a strong impression in a Liverpool shirt.

Liverpool supporters will now be hoping the issue that forced Alisson out of training is only minor and that the Brazilian will be back available very soon.
