Slot Hopeful Alisson Will Return After Missing Galatasaray Defeat

13 Mar

Arne Slot has given a cautiously optimistic update on the fitness of Alisson Becker after the goalkeeper missed Liverpool’s midweek defeat to Galatasaray S.K..

The Brazilian international did not travel for the European fixture after picking up an injury, leaving Giorgi Mamardashvili to step in between the posts. Despite the result, Mamardashvili produced a number of impressive saves, but Liverpool ultimately fell to a 1-0 defeat in Istanbul.

Speaking about Alisson’s condition, Slot revealed the goalkeeper is continuing to work with the club’s medical staff but could soon return to full training.

“He’s been with the physios until now. Let’s see if he can join the team session today. It’s something I expect but not 100% sure yet. I am hopeful he will be available.”

Boost for Liverpool?

If Alisson is able to rejoin the squad in training, it would be a significant boost for Liverpool FC after a difficult night in Turkey. The Brazilian remains one of the most important players in the team, both for his world-class shot-stopping and the composure he brings to the defence.

Liverpool will now wait to see how he responds in training, with Slot hopeful the number one goalkeeper will be available again soon.
