Slot Reunion On The Cards? Liverpool Still Want Geertruida

29 Mar

Reports from Fussballdaten suggest that Liverpool F.C. are still interested in signing Dutch international Lutsharel Geertruida after missing out on him during the January transfer window.

Geertruida is a player very familiar to Arne Slot from their time together at Feyenoord, where he became one of the manager’s most trusted and versatile players. He can play at right-back, centre-back and even in midfield, which makes him exactly the type of flexible player Slot has liked to use in his systems.

It is believed Liverpool’s interest never went away after January, and a summer move could be much more likely, especially with uncertainty around several defenders and the possibility of changes in the back line.

Geertruida would not necessarily be a headline signing, but he would be a very “Slot-type” signing — tactically intelligent, versatile, hard-working and someone who already understands what the manager wants from his players.

If Liverpool are planning a squad rebuild this summer, bringing in players who already know Slot’s system and style of play could be something the club look to do, and Geertruida would fit that idea perfectly.

This is definitely one to keep an eye on as the summer window gets closer.
