It was a frustrating night for Liverpool FC as they fell 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain — and there are plenty of big questions to come out of it.
1. Slot Got His Team Selection Wrong
Arne Slot made some huge calls — and they didn’t pay off.
Leaving out:
Rio Ngumoha Mohamed Salah Curtis Jones
👉 Took away energy, creativity, and attacking threat
From the first whistle, Liverpool looked short of ideas — and the selection has to be questioned.
2. Isak & Ekitike Call Didn’t Work
Starting both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike raised eyebrows.
Especially with:
👉 Isak only able to play around 45 minutes
It disrupted rhythm and balance, and Liverpool never really looked settled in attack.
3. The Tie Was Lost In The First Leg
In truth, this result didn’t come out of nowhere.
The tie was arguably lost in the first leg, where Liverpool’s:
Defensive setup Lack of ambition Minimal attacking threat
👉 Left them with too much to do
That cautious approach ultimately came back to cost them.
4. Big Players Not Delivering
There are serious questions around performances from key players like:
Alexis Mac Allister Cody Gakpo
Both have struggled for consistency, and on a night where Liverpool needed leaders:
👉 They didn’t step up
5. Fans Deserved Better
Once again, the supporters did their part.
At Anfield:
The atmosphere was there The energy was there The belief was there
👉 But it felt like the team fed off the fans — not the manager’s plan
And with ongoing frustration around ticket price increases, many will feel:
👉 Fans are giving everything… and being asked to give even more
The Bottom Line
Liverpool were second best.
PSG were clinical.
And across the two legs:
👉 The decisions, performances, and tactics simply weren’t good enough.
