Arne Slot got this one wrong again.
Playing Curtis Jones at right-back never looked convincing before the game and Chelsea exposed it all afternoon.
Marc Cucurella kept getting in behind him and Liverpool looked vulnerable down that side almost every time Chelsea attacked.
The frustrating thing is it’s not even Jones’ fault.
He’s a midfielder being asked to do a job out of position against players who naturally attack those areas.
At times he did okay on the ball, but defensively he looked uncomfortable and Chelsea knew exactly where to target.
Meanwhile Joe Gomez was sat on the bench.
A proper defender with recovery pace and experience playing that role.
It just felt like the obvious decision to start him there and move Jones into midfield instead.
You could see Ibrahima Konaté constantly being dragged across trying to cover the space as well, which ended up affecting the whole back line.
Liverpool never really looked secure defensively because of it.
What makes it worse is fans could see the problem almost immediately.
And when the same issues keep happening every week, people are obviously going to start questioning the manager’s decisions more and more.
