Respected journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Liverpool are serious contenders to sign highly-rated Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.
According to Ornstein, the 19-year-old winger is viewed as a leading target for Liverpool as the club continue planning aggressively for the future.
However, Liverpool face major competition for the teenager’s signature, with Paris Saint-Germain also among the clubs heavily interested.
Ornstein reports that Liverpool are currently in a “strong position” regarding the player and that if personal terms appear achievable, club-to-club negotiations could follow quickly.
But there is one enormous complication:
RB Leipzig reportedly want more than €100 million to sell him.
That valuation alone shows just how highly the German club rate Diomande’s long-term potential.
The teenager has rapidly become one of the most exciting young attacking players in Europe.
Known for his explosive pace, direct dribbling and fearless attacking style, Diomande fits perfectly into the profile of player Liverpool supporters have been craving.
Especially during a season where the squad often lacked unpredictability and attacking aggression in wide areas.
For many fans, this also feels like another sign Liverpool are continuing to build around elite young talent rather than focusing only on short-term fixes.
The club have already invested heavily in youth recruitment recently with names like:
- Rio Ngumoha
- Samuel Martínez
- Armin Pecsi
- Ifeanyi Ndukwe
And Diomande would represent perhaps the biggest statement yet in that strategy.
Of course, the financial side of the deal would be hugely challenging.
€100m+ is an extraordinary figure for a 19-year-old player, even in today’s market.
And with Liverpool still expected to strengthen multiple positions this summer — including right-back, centre-back and midfield — supporters will naturally question whether such a massive investment would be realistic.
Still, the fact Liverpool are even being mentioned so strongly alongside PSG shows the level of ambition behind the scenes.
Because Diomande is not viewed simply as another prospect.
He is viewed as a player with genuine superstar potential.
The situation will now likely depend on several factors:
- Whether Diomande himself prefers Liverpool
- Whether Liverpool are willing to approach Leipzig’s valuation
- And whether the club’s hierarchy fully believe he can become one of the next elite attackers in world football
But one thing already feels clear:
Liverpool’s recruitment strategy is becoming increasingly focused on securing the next generation of elite-level talent before the rest of Europe fully takes over the market.
