Arne Slot has openly admitted Liverpool still have major weaknesses to fix heading into next season as the manager defended the club’s ongoing transition process.
Speaking about what Liverpool need to improve, Slot acknowledged problems across multiple areas of the pitch rather than focusing on one single issue.
“I think we have to do better in many phases of the game next season.”
One of the first areas Slot highlighted was set-pieces — something supporters have repeatedly criticised throughout the campaign.
“So set-pieces is one, scoring goals from them…”
Liverpool struggled badly both defensively and offensively from dead-ball situations this season, often looking physically weaker and tactically unconvincing compared to rivals like Arsenal.
But Slot also admitted Liverpool’s problems from open play were equally concerning.
“We have not scored enough goals from open play. We have not generated enough chances from open play.”
That admission will resonate strongly with supporters who often complained Liverpool’s football became too slow, passive and predictable during large parts of the season.
Many fans believe the team lacked intensity, creativity and attacking aggression — particularly compared to the exciting football seen during the Jürgen Klopp era.
Slot then pointed toward recruitment as part of the solution.
“Sometimes you have to add stuff to a team so that the rest can evolve and get better as well.”
The Liverpool manager referenced how other clubs dramatically improved after making key additions during transfer windows.
And while he did not specifically name targets, it is clear Liverpool expect another important summer rebuild ahead.
However, Slot also asked supporters for patience regarding the scale of Liverpool’s transition.
“We cannot complete a transition in one window, for obvious reasons.”
The Dutchman compared Liverpool’s current situation to Klopp’s early years at Anfield, reminding supporters that Liverpool’s greatest modern side also took several years to fully build.
“I think Jurgen Klopp’s best team that was competing for every single trophy at that time took a few years to bring together as well.”
That comparison will likely divide opinion among supporters.
Some fans will understand the point and accept rebuilding takes time.
Others will argue Klopp’s Liverpool always showed clear emotional intensity and visible progression even during difficult periods — something many supporters feel has been missing under Slot.
Still, Slot remains convinced Liverpool can improve significantly with further squad evolution.
“If we can add one or two then, I think, we as a group will look much better next year.”
The problem for Slot is that many supporters no longer simply want promises.
They want proof.
Because after a season filled with frustration, passive football and growing distrust, next season may become one of the most pressurised Liverpool managers have faced in years.
And while Slot believes Liverpool are still evolving, many supporters feel patience is already starting to run dangerously thin.

If he can dismantle Jurgen’s team and style quickly perhaps he can do the same with his boring football. Doubt it though.
Yes they will improve without SLOT, looking back at this season, the pace so slow, mickey mouse game compared to the previous season. Slot’s game plan does not suit Liverpool.
