Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Liverpool should do absolutely everything possible to try and bring Luis Enrique to Anfield if the opportunity ever became realistic.
Speaking about the Paris Saint-Germain manager, Murphy suggested Liverpool should aggressively pursue him because he feels Enrique may eventually crave a bigger challenge than dominating French football every season.
Murphy said:
“I would try and break the bank and do everything I can to get Luis Enrique.”
And honestly, many Liverpool supporters would probably agree.
Enrique has built one of Europe’s strongest sides at PSG.
His teams play with intensity, aggression, tactical flexibility and attacking bravery — all qualities many Liverpool fans feel have been badly missing this season under Arne Slot.
Murphy also questioned whether managing in Ligue 1 can truly continue satisfying Enrique long-term.
He added:
“He must be bored there playing in a Mickey Mouse league where he wins every week and all he’s looking forward to is the Champions League.”
Harsh perhaps — but many supporters understand the wider point being made.
Because Liverpool fans increasingly feel their own club has lost some of the emotional intensity and elite mentality that once defined them under Jürgen Klopp.
That is why Enrique’s personality appeals so strongly to supporters right now.
He has charisma.
Authority.
Presence.
And most importantly, his teams play football with courage and identity.
Those are qualities many fans no longer feel connected to under the current setup.
The reality, of course, is that prising Enrique away from PSG would be incredibly difficult.
Especially if he continues competing for — and potentially winning — the UEFA Champions League.
But Murphy’s comments reflect something bigger happening among sections of the Liverpool fanbase.
Growing doubt over Slot’s long-term suitability.
Supporters have become increasingly frustrated by:
- Passive football
- Tactical stubbornness
- Strange substitutions
- Defensive collapses
- Emotional disconnect with fans
- And repeated excuses about needing more transfer windows
Many fans simply no longer feel inspired watching Liverpool.
And that may be the most damaging issue of all.
Enrique, meanwhile, feels like the opposite personality entirely.
A manager capable of reigniting belief, excitement and elite standards instantly.
Someone supporters could emotionally connect with again.
Whether Liverpool’s hierarchy would ever realistically consider such a move is another question entirely.
But Murphy’s comments will definitely resonate with a fanbase currently desperate for stronger leadership, bigger personality and a clearer football identity moving forward.
Because right now, many supporters feel Liverpool need far more than just new signings.
They need inspiration again too.
