A normal lady, a normal mother, with a typical football loving boy

Who lost her son at a football match

A life lost, a life changed forever

Every parent’s worst nightmare to lose a son or daughter

But at a football match, this should never happen

96 never returned, 96 families lives changed forever

Unthinkable tragedy, unbelievable lies

Anne lost her son 24 years ago

All she wanted was to know what happened that day

How her Kevin died

Was that too much to ask

The victims were blamed for their own deaths

Anne knew the lies

She would get the truth against the establishment

She fought for the truth

She fought for justice

Against all odds when mere mortals would give up

Most would tire of the fight

Most would struggle with a broken heart

Anne’s heart is as big as Liverpool

Anne has led the fight for justice

She has never backed down

She would not be defeated

Her strength is unparalleled

Anne fought the law and Anne won

24 years fighting for the truth and for justice

Her belief never waned, her spirit never broken

Finally rewarded last September

The truth came out

Anne has put her body and mind through hell for 24 years

Anne fought for an inquest into her son’s death

Because she knew he could have been saved

Last October she was diagnosed with terminal cancer

And she continued to fight her for her cause

Although her body was suffering

Anne’s body finally gave in this week

Sad that she never lived to see the inquest

As she joined her beloved son Kevin

But not before defying doctors with one last show of courage

To attend Monday’s 24th Hillsborough Anniversary Service at Anfield

Anne Williams suffered tragedy

She suffered the lies

Never felt sorry for herself

Never gave up

Respected by many

Carried a city against injustice

Anne Williams rest in peace

You will never walk alone

Happy Birthday Borini

Happy Birthday Borini

Today is Liverpool’s Fabio Borini’s birthday and I wish him a good one, especially with the difficult time he has endured so far in his first season in Merseyside.  Borini celebrates his 22nd birthday today and is still very young although he has been around a few clubs in his young career.

Borini has already had spells at Chelsea and Swansea where he worked with Brendan Rodgers, before returning to his native Italy and a spell at Parma before moving to Roma where he enjoyed his best scoring run of 10 goals in 14 games. Liverpool bought him for £10.4 million last summer.

Borini’s Liverpool career got off to a good start with an Anfield debut goal against Gomel in the Europa League, but that goal remains his only goal for Liverpool in 16 appearances for the club. A broken bone in his foot meant a lengthy lay-off for the striker, and on his return from injury in February he badly injured his shoulder against Swansea after coming on as a substitute.

Borini has come in for a lot of criticism in his short spell at Liverpool, and a few bad misses in front of goal have not helped his cause of winning over the Anfield faithful. But he does show great endeavour for the team and makes good runs off the shoulder of the last defender.

It is very difficult for any youngster to settle into a big club like Liverpool with expectations so high, especially involving a big transfer fee. Injuries have not helped Borini settle into the Liverpool team and he must be given time.

Too many people see the price tag on a player regardless of his age and expect him to perform brilliantly straight away and in every game, and this very rarely happens and it is more difficult for a youngster who lacks the experience of a seasoned professional to deal with the situation.

I remember not so long ago a young Brazilian called Lucas who was criticised in his younger days for not being good enough to play for Liverpool. I was one of those critics, and how wrong we have all been proved in the passing of time. Lucas is now one of the best holding midfielders in the Premiership and it is quite embarrassing to think of the criticism he endured.

In Borini’s case it is more difficult because he also comes with a big price tag and has not had many chances to impress because of bad luck with injuries. But there has been speculation that he might return to fitness before the end of the season.

Hopefully Borini gets fully fit for the start of next season and can get a chance to prove his worth to the team and the supporters. After all his injury problems this season, he deserves a bit of time to succeed at Liverpool.

Happy Birthday Fabio.

Improving Liverpool

Improving Liverpool

Liverpool have endured a rollercoaster of a season since Brendan Rodgers took over in the summer, and the results have been so inconsistent leaving the club way off the pace for a top four finish. But this season was always going to be a transitional period.

Liverpool lost a lot of experience in the summer for one reason or another and Brendan Rodgers had to turn to youth to fill the gaps in his team. Players like Andre Wisdom, Suso and Raheem Sterling have stepped up to the plate for Liverpool and Liverpool are now starting to reap the rewards of their youth system with many others showing great quality and who will be challenging for a first team place in the not too distant future.

Jordan Ibe looks the pick of the bunch of talented youngsters but Connor Coady, Yesil, Ryan McLaughlin, Sama, Morgan, Flanagan, and Jack Robinson who is out on loan at the moment are a few worth mentioning.

New managers come to a new club and try to install their ideas and methods of how they want their team to play and Brendan Rodgers is no different, Rodgers likes to play a passing style including pressing the opposition high up the park. This has took a while to implement with signs of it working in some matches and many mistakes especially in defence costing the team dear in others.

To qualify for European competition next season would be high on the agenda at the start of the season, but with so many changes at the club the most important thing should be that the team is showing signs of improvement, and I believe that they are.

OK so the defence has been a bit more vulnerable than in recent seasons, but by playing a passing game from the back does put extra pressure on defenders and as the season has progressed I feel they are learning that there are still times when you have to just clear your lines when under pressure, when earlier in the season they would pass their way into trouble. There is still the odd mistake like Carragher’s the other night but individual mistakes do happen and I’m sure they will clear up soon.

The amount of chances Liverpool are creating has to be encouraging although the conversion rate is poor, but it is more of a problem when you are not creating chances and to produce 35 shots at goal in one game is quite remarkable and the conversion rate will improve.

The reliance on Suarez for the most part of the season has been a problem but he has been immense regarding Liverpool’s lack of striking options. But with the addition of Sturridge to the team Liverpool look far more threatening and a more attacking team. Lucas coming back from injury has freed up Gerrard to get forward more and the resurgence of Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson has been a great addition to the team.

The performances against Swansea and Zenit were very encouraging with the team playing some great football but more importantly playing with a desire, passion and high tempo that we have not seen enough of this season. So hopefully this style of play and attitude will continue as opposition teams will struggle against a Liverpool team playing this way.

There is a lot to play for in the remainder of the season for Liverpool and if they can continue to show improvement then the future will be bright for the Anfield side.

Liverpool In Crisis

Liverpool In Crisis

As a Liverpool supporter it pains me to say it but “Liverpool are in big trouble”. Last Friday’s debacle to sign a last minute striker highlighted the mess the club are in.

Liverpool is falling further behind the top teams in the Premiership as confirmed with a lowly 8th position in the league last season.

But matters are so bad now with only two recognised strikers in Liverpool’s squad. It amazes me how we could let Andy Carroll go on loan to West Ham without a replacement for him. Brendan Rodgers stated that he would not have allowed that to happen, so it seems he has been let down somewhere.

Would the club not pay the money for target Clint Dempsey ?

Or, does the club not have the money ?

Either way, it is quite amazing when not so long ago Liverpool’s American owners was willing to back former manager Kenny Dalglish with so much money, especially as they was not prepared to give Dalglish the time to gel his team together.

Dalglish brought in many new players and one season was never long enough to see how they would do. Dalglish took Liverpool to two Cup Finals, winning one of them, and he had his team playing some of the best football Anfield has seen in years.

But the panic button was pressed at the end of the season by the American owners and Dalglish was sacked along with Damien Comolli, who was the orchestrator of the Liverpool’s transfer dealings.

Liverpool did pay over the odds for many of their players like £20 million for Stewart Downing, £20 million for Jordan Henderson, but the biggest expenditure was for Andy Carroll who cost £35 million.

It was extremely trustworthy of the owners to put their faith in Dalglish and Comolli with their money. But to let them spend so much of it and then sack them at the end of the season was ludicrous.

Now the owners have brought in new manager Brendan Rodgers with the task of bringing back Liverpool to the summit of English football.

Rodgers has come in with a fresh approach and great ideas on how he would like Liverpool to play, and he has been given some money to bring in a few of his own players to the club.

But since Rodgers has arrived he has not fancied Andy Carroll and has wanted rid of the big man, eventually getting his wish last week.

But although Rodgers wanted rid of Carroll, he looked keen on signing Clint Dempsey from Fulham. But for whatever reason Liverpool failed to get their man as Spurs nipped in to steal him from under their nose.

It looks like Liverpool’s owners was not wanting to make the same mistake expenditure wise as they did with Dalglish, or they just don’t have the money now. But surely for the sake of an extra one or two million it was worth it to get Dempsey.

Liverpool’s problem in recent years has been in the striker department even since the days of Torres. Dalglish at least gave himself striking options, although goals was still hard to come by, but Rodgers is left in a seriously desperate position with only two strikers, Luis Suarez and new signing Fabio Borini.

None of those two players will score enough goals and if Liverpool get injuries to any of them it will be even more disastrous with only young Adam Morgan to call upon, unless Rodgers can bring in a free agent.

It is no secret that Liverpool needed strikers and for the hierarchy at the club to allow this scenario to materialise is a disgrace and John W Henry’s letter holds no substance with his excuses.

After spending all their money on Dalglish they should have gave him time for his team to grow, after all they have said it will take time for Liverpool to get back to the top.

But now they have said Brendan Rodgers will get time, with no money and no strikers, I am not holding my breath. We’ll see.
