Mohamed Salah has sparked huge reaction after posting a powerful message reflecting on his time at Liverpool and calling for the club to return to its identity following another disappointing defeat this season.
The Liverpool forward, who has been one of the defining players of the modern era at Anfield, reflected on both past success and the current struggles facing the team.
In his message, Salah wrote:
“I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.
Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve.”
The comments come after yet another setback in a difficult campaign, with Liverpool’s form falling well below expectations throughout the season.
Salah went on to stress the need for Liverpool to rediscover their famous attacking identity — the high-intensity style that made them one of the most feared sides in Europe.
“I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.”
The message is a clear reminder of what Liverpool were at their peak under previous eras — a relentless, aggressive side built on intensity, pressing and attacking confidence.
For many supporters, those words will resonate strongly, especially given how inconsistent and fragile Liverpool have looked at times this season.
Salah also made a broader point about standards at the club:
“Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games.”
It is a subtle but clear warning that Liverpool’s expectations must be far higher than simply competing — they must be about winning major trophies.
Despite the criticism and frustration, Salah ended his message on a deeply emotional note about his connection to the club:
“Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.”
The post will inevitably fuel debate among supporters, particularly given the wider questions around Liverpool’s direction, squad consistency and long-term planning.
But one thing is clear — Salah’s message is rooted in pride, frustration, and a desire to see Liverpool return to the standards that once made them champions.
