A new report from Lewis Steele has provided fresh insight into the growing tension between Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot before the Egyptian decided his Liverpool career was coming to an end.
According to Steele, Salah and Slot held a short conversation on the Friday following Salah’s controversial Leeds interview, where both agreed to publicly put their differences aside.
However, behind the scenes, the situation reportedly remained far from resolved.
The report claims Salah privately continued feeling deeply frustrated not only with Slot, but also with others at Liverpool.
That frustration allegedly became serious enough for Salah to ask his long-term agent and close ally Ramy Abbas to begin actively searching for a new club and preparing for life away from Liverpool.
According to the report, by December Salah had fully made up his mind.
Perhaps the most shocking detail is the claim that all parties eventually agreed Salah would leave on a free transfer.
For many Liverpool supporters, that remains extremely difficult to accept considering Salah’s status as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
The Egyptian transformed Liverpool across nearly a decade at Anfield:
- Premier League titles
- Champions League success
- Record-breaking goals
- Historic individual achievements
- Global superstar status
And yet his Liverpool story now appears set to end amid tension, disappointment and frustration.
The reports also continue strengthening the growing perception among supporters that this season’s problems extended far deeper than simply tactics or poor results.
Over recent months there have already been repeated rumours involving dressing room disagreements, frustrations with playing style and tensions between senior players and coaching staff.
Now Salah’s situation increasingly feels like one of the clearest examples yet of how strained things became internally.
Many fans also continue linking Salah’s frustration directly to Liverpool’s changing football identity under Slot.
The Egyptian’s previous comments about Liverpool losing its “heavy metal football” style resonated strongly with supporters who felt the team became too passive and emotionally flat this season.
That is why this latest report will likely only intensify criticism toward Slot among sections of the fanbase.
At the same time, others will argue situations like this can naturally happen during major transitions.
Replacing an iconic figure like Jürgen Klopp was always going to create difficult adjustments both emotionally and tactically.
But regardless of where blame ultimately falls, the reality remains painful for Liverpool supporters.
One of the greatest players ever to wear the shirt now appears set to leave under a cloud rather than the celebration many fans hoped he deserved.
And for many supporters, that may become one of the saddest parts of this entire difficult season.
