Fresh reports suggest Curtis Jones is advancing in talks to join Inter Milan this summer as the midfielder increasingly considers a new challenge away from Liverpool.
According to the reports, Jones originally hoped to spend his entire career at Liverpool.
But frustration over his lack of consistent game time has now reportedly pushed him toward seriously considering a move abroad.
Talks are expected to continue soon.
For many Liverpool supporters, this would be one of the most emotional departures of the summer.
Jones is not just another squad player.
He is a Scouser.
A boyhood Liverpool fan.
Someone who genuinely understood what representing Liverpool meant emotionally.
That connection matters hugely to supporters.
And honestly, many fans feel Jones has never truly been fully trusted despite repeatedly showing his quality whenever given opportunities.
This season especially felt strange.
At times Jones looked like one of Liverpool’s better midfielders, yet he constantly found himself in and out of the side.
Even being shifted to right-back at points highlighted how unclear his role under Arne Slot has become.
From Jones’ perspective, Inter Milan probably looks extremely attractive.
Inter remain one of Europe’s elite clubs, consistently competing for major honours while also offering a more tactical and controlled style of football that may suit his strengths perfectly.
Most importantly though, he likely believes he would finally receive the trust and consistent role he has craved.
That is what makes this situation so frustrating for many supporters.
Liverpool have spent years developing Jones through the academy only to potentially lose him just as he reaches his peak years.
And replacing homegrown players who genuinely understand the club emotionally is not easy.
Especially during a summer where so much of Liverpool’s identity already feels like it is disappearing.
Supporters are already preparing for possible exits involving:
- Mo Salah
- Andy Robertson
- Joe Gomez
- Ibrahima Konate
Now the possibility of Jones leaving too only deepens fears about the club losing its core identity entirely.
Of course, Liverpool may still try convincing Jones to stay.
But if the midfielder truly feels he will continue being a rotation option rather than a key player, the attraction of a fresh challenge at Inter becomes understandable.
Especially at this stage of his career.
For supporters though, this would hurt differently.
Because players like Curtis Jones are supposed to be part of Liverpool’s future.
Not another talented academy graduate feeling he has to leave Anfield to fulfil his potential elsewhere.
