Which Liverpool Player Are You Most Excited to Watch This Season?

Every new season brings fresh excitement.

New signings arrive.

Young players emerge.

Established stars look to reach another level.

For Liverpool supporters, there are plenty of names to be excited about heading into the new campaign.

Florian Wirtz.

Alexander Isak.

Milos Kerkez.

Rio Ngumoha.

Stefan Bajcetic.

But if I had to choose just one player, my answer might surprise a few people.

Jeremy Jacquet.

A Defender With Huge Potential

I’ll admit it—I genuinely can’t wait to see Jeremy Jacquet in a Liverpool shirt during pre-season.

The more I’ve watched and read about him, the more convinced I’ve become that Liverpool have signed someone very special.

At 20 years old, he already possesses many of the attributes elite centre-backs need:

● Strength.

● Pace.

● Composure.

● Confidence on the ball.

● Aerial dominance.

Those qualities are difficult to find in one player, especially someone so young.

Perfect for Iraola’s Football

One reason I’m so excited is because Jacquet appears tailor-made for Andoni Iraola’s style.

Liverpool are expected to defend higher up the pitch, press aggressively and ask their defenders to be brave in possession.

Jacquet looks capable of doing all of that.

He isn’t simply a traditional centre-back who clears his lines.

He wants the ball.

He drives forward.

He looks comfortable starting attacks.

That’s exactly what modern football demands.

Learning From Van Dijk

Perhaps the biggest advantage Jacquet has is the opportunity to learn from Virgil van Dijk.

There are few better mentors in world football.

Training alongside Liverpool’s captain every day could accelerate his development enormously.

If Jacquet absorbs even a fraction of Van Dijk’s reading of the game and leadership qualities, Liverpool could have a remarkable player on their hands.

Patience Will Be Needed

Of course, supporters also need to be realistic.

He is still only 20.

Mistakes will happen.

There will be moments where he needs time to adjust to the speed and physicality of English football.

That is completely normal.

The important thing is not judging him after one difficult game.

It is watching how he develops over the next few years.

Liverpool’s Next Defensive Leader?

There is always pressure when a young defender arrives for a significant transfer fee.

But sometimes you just get a feeling about a player.

Jacquet gives me that feeling.

He has the profile.

He has the mentality.

And he has the manager to help him improve.

If everything clicks, Liverpool may have found the long-term defensive leader they’ve been searching for.
