Liverpool Confirm Return Dates for World Cup Trio as Iraola Awaits Key Reinforcements

2 Aug

Liverpool have now received clarity on when three important first-team players will return to pre-season following their extended summer breaks after the World Cup.

Andoni Iraola has confirmed the return dates for:

● Víctor Muñoz — 5 August

● Alisson Becker — 7 August

● Alexis Mac Allister — 9 August

The trio will begin integrating with the squad as Liverpool step up preparations for the new Premier League campaign.

Iraola Waiting for Key Players

While Liverpool’s pre-season has already provided encouraging signs under Iraola, the head coach has still not had the opportunity to work extensively with several of his most important players.

Alisson and Mac Allister are expected to play central roles this season, while new signing Víctor Muñoz will also need time to adapt to his teammates and Iraola’s tactical approach.

With the Premier League opener drawing ever closer, every training session now becomes increasingly valuable.

Fitness and Integration Will Be Crucial

The challenge is not simply getting the players back to the AXA Training Centre.

They must quickly rebuild match fitness and develop an understanding with teammates who have already completed several weeks of intensive work under Iraola.

The Spaniard’s system demands:

● High-intensity pressing

● Aggressive transitions

● Constant movement

● Strong tactical organisation

That takes time to develop on the training pitch.

Why the Delay Has Raised Eyebrows

Some Liverpool supporters have questioned why the World Cup finalists are receiving such extended breaks, particularly after seeing other international stars return to club football much sooner.

One example is Lionel Messi.

Despite Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the World Cup final, Messi returned to action almost immediately, coming off the bench for Inter Miami in their 2-2 draw with Columbus Crew.

That naturally raises comparisons.

If Messi is already back playing competitive football, some supporters wonder why Liverpool’s returning internationals are not yet back with the squad.

Every Club Has Different Plans

There is, however, an important distinction.

Every club manages post-tournament recovery differently.

Liverpool’s medical and sports science staff may believe that giving players additional recovery time now will leave them fresher over the course of a long Premier League season.

After another demanding World Cup campaign, both the physical and mental recovery of players is a major consideration.

Rather than rushing them back for pre-season, Liverpool appear to be prioritising long-term fitness.

The Countdown Is On

Even so, the pressure is mounting.

The new Premier League season is rapidly approaching, and Iraola will want as much time as possible with a full-strength squad.

The return of Muñoz, Alisson and Mac Allister will therefore represent an important milestone in Liverpool’s preparations.

Supporters will now be hoping the trio can settle quickly and help Liverpool hit the ground running when competitive football returns.

With expectations high and a new era underway, every day of preparation counts.
