Liverpool may have another reason to move quickly for Bradley Barcola, although the available information remains based on reported interest and transfer speculation rather than a confirmed agreement.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Arsenal are aware that Barcola wants to join Liverpool. Jacobs has also suggested that, if Arsenal enter the race seriously, they may need to outbid Liverpool, potentially giving Paris Saint-Germain the bidding war they would want.
The conclusion that Liverpool should act quickly is my opinion based on those reports.
Barcola reportedly wants Liverpool
The biggest advantage Liverpool appear to have is the player’s reported preference.
Jacobs has previously reported that Barcola is leaning towards Liverpool. The Empire of The Kop has also reported that the French winger wants a move to Anfield.
Those reports, if accurate, would represent a significant advantage for Liverpool.
However, a player’s preference does not guarantee a transfer. Liverpool would still need to agree a fee and contractual terms with PSG.
That is where the situation could become complicated.
Arsenal could change everything
Jacobs has suggested that Arsenal would need to outbid Liverpool if they decided to pursue Barcola seriously. That claim is not confirmation that Arsenal have made an offer or formally entered negotiations.
If Arsenal did become serious contenders, PSG could have two wealthy Premier League clubs competing for one of their most valuable players.
From PSG’s perspective, that could create the conditions for a bidding war.
Liverpool might be willing to pay a certain amount. Arsenal might be willing to pay more. If that happened, the asking price could rise.
My view is that Liverpool should not allow the situation to drag on indefinitely.
Why Liverpool may need to act now
Liverpool’s need for another dangerous winger is an assessment rather than a confirmed club position.
The 2-2 draw with Newcastle appeared to highlight some attacking limitations. Liverpool had significant possession but lacked creativity at times, while Alexander Isak received limited service.
Reuters has reported that Iraola said Liverpool could compete despite needing more signings, including in the wide areas.
That report does not establish that Liverpool have decided to sign Barcola. It does, however, support the argument that additional attacking options could be useful.
In my assessment, Barcola would address several of those needs:
● Pace
● Dribbling ability
● One-on-one quality
● Movement
● Chance creation
Those are qualities Liverpool could benefit from, but the claim that Barcola would immediately solve their attacking problems remains an opinion.
Don’t give Arsenal the opportunity
This is where I believe Liverpool have to be ruthless.
If the club genuinely considers Barcola the right player, my view is that it should try to complete the deal quickly rather than allow negotiations to continue unnecessarily.
There is no confirmed evidence that Liverpool are currently haggling over a fee or that Arsenal are preparing a formal offer. The concern is hypothetical: if Arsenal become involved, the negotiating dynamics could change.
PSG would not necessarily have to accept Liverpool’s proposal. If another club made a stronger offer, PSG could choose to wait, compare the bids and seek improved terms.
That could turn a straightforward negotiation into a competitive auction.
Barcola could be the perfect addition
Liverpool already have Gakpo, Isak and Wirtz, according to the scenario presented in this article. Adding Barcola could give Iraola another player capable of creating chances and beating defenders.
That assessment is my opinion, not a reported fact about Liverpool’s transfer plans.
In my view, Barcola’s pace would be particularly valuable. Liverpool’s attack has appeared to lack some of that quality since Mohamed Salah’s departure, although that is an interpretation of the team’s performances rather than a confirmed tactical assessment from the club.
Isak needs service.
Barcola could potentially provide it.
Gakpo would face greater competition.
Wirtz could benefit from having another runner around him.
If Barcola adapted successfully, Liverpool’s attack could become more balanced. That outcome is speculative, however, and no transfer guarantees a particular tactical impact.
Liverpool can’t assume the player’s preference is enough
This is the central danger.
Jacobs and other reports have suggested that Barcola prefers Liverpool, but that does not mean PSG must sell him to Anfield.
PSG would ultimately have to agree to the best deal available to the club, subject to the player’s contract and any negotiations involving the player.
If Arsenal were prepared to pay more, PSG could have a decision that would make a Liverpool transfer more difficult. There is currently no confirmed evidence that Arsenal have made such an offer.
That is why, in my opinion, Liverpool should take advantage of any current advantage rather than assume the player’s preference will settle the matter.
Move now, Liverpool
The reported information gives Liverpool a potentially important advantage: Barcola is said to prefer Liverpool.
That claim comes primarily from Ben Jacobs and has been echoed by other reports, including The Empire of The Kop. It has not been presented here as a confirmed statement from Barcola or PSG.
Jacobs has also suggested that Arsenal could need to outbid Liverpool if they enter the race seriously. That remains a reported possibility, not confirmation that Arsenal have submitted an offer.
Liverpool’s need for more pace and creativity is my assessment of the team’s current attacking situation. The Reuters report about Iraola’s comments provides context regarding the need for additional options, but it does not link those comments directly to Barcola.
In my view, Liverpool need another winger, someone who can stretch defences and someone who can help provide service for Isak.
Bradley Barcola appears to fit many of those requirements.
If Liverpool genuinely believe he is their preferred target, my opinion is that they should avoid another unnecessarily prolonged transfer saga.
Pay what the club believes he is worth and try to get the deal done.
The longer Liverpool wait, the more opportunity Arsenal may have to change the dynamics of the race. That is a possibility, not a confirmed development.
Liverpool should act quickly if they are serious about Barcola.
Otherwise, the transfer could become a bidding war.
