If Arne Slot does end up leaving Liverpool FC this summer, there’s one name I’d definitely be keeping an eye on — Andoni Iraola.
Mainly because of Richard Hughes.
If Hughes really is a big fan of Iraola, then that instantly makes it more than just a random link. We all know how important that relationship is when it comes to these decisions.
Iraola’s teams are proper intense. High press, loads of energy, always on the front foot. It’s not a million miles away from what Liverpool fans expect to see, which is probably why his name makes sense.
He’s not a big-name appointment, but sometimes that’s not a bad thing. You’re getting someone with clear ideas rather than just a reputation.
The question is whether he’s ready for a club like Liverpool.
Because it’s a completely different level:
- Expectations every single week
- Pressure from day one
- No time to figure things out slowly
But then again, every manager who makes it at the top has to take that step at some point.
Personally, I’d find it quite exciting.
It would feel like a bit of a reset — new ideas, new energy, and maybe a clearer identity than what we’re seeing right now.
And if Hughes is pushing for it, you’d have to think there’s something there.
At the moment it’s all “what if”.
But if things do change this summer, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Andoni Iraola is right near the top of the list.
