James Pearce has been out again defending Arne Slot, saying the reason the club are still sticking with him is pretty simple — he only won the league just over a year ago and impressed massively at Feyenoord Rotterdam before coming in.
He also pointed out that people like Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes still believe he deserves time to sort things out after a difficult season.
And you can kind of see that argument from the club’s point of view.
Winning the league in your first season buys you credit. No question about that.
But from a fan point of view, it’s getting harder to listen to.
Because we’ve been hearing the same lines for a while now — “he needs time”, “he’s earned trust”, “he’ll fix it”.
Meanwhile, what we’re actually seeing on the pitch just hasn’t been good enough.
It’s the same problems week after week:
- Inconsistent performances
- Strange decisions at times
- Defensive issues not going away
- No real rhythm or identity
That’s what people are reacting to more than anything.
Personally, I think fans would be a lot more patient if there was at least something to point at — some clear signs it’s improving.
But right now it just feels like we’re going round in circles.
So even though the club are still backing Arne Slot, you can feel the mood shifting a bit among supporters.
Because at some point, “he deserves time” only holds weight if you can actually see progress.
