Reports suggest Arne Slot has recently been informed that his contract at Liverpool will not be renewed for the time being.
And apparently, Slot is now set to review his own position at the club.
If true, you really have to wonder what’s going through his mind right now.
After arriving with huge expectations and winning the league title last season, things have unravelled badly this year.
The pressure has grown week after week, performances have become increasingly flat and the atmosphere around Anfield has turned toxic at times.
So hearing the club are now hesitating over his future must be a huge moment for him personally.
Does he feel let down after delivering a title only a year ago?
Or maybe he’s simply looking at the situation himself and wondering whether this is still the right place for him moving forward.
The reality is this season has damaged everyone.
The supporters are frustrated, the hierarchy are under pressure and Slot himself looks increasingly worn down by everything happening around the club.
What makes this situation even more interesting is that Liverpool had publicly continued backing Slot despite the criticism.
But delaying contract talks would suggest there is now at least some uncertainty internally about where things are heading.
And once doubts start appearing at a club as big as Liverpool, things can change very quickly.
