According to David Ornstein, Liverpool are planning to heavily back Arne Slot in the transfer market this summer — especially in the winger positions.
The feeling inside the club is that Liverpool badly need more quality and depth out wide, with one or even two new wingers expected to arrive.
And to be fair, Liverpool’s attack has looked predictable far too often this season.
There’s been a lack of pace, direct running and players capable of properly unsettling defenders consistently.
The club clearly believe improving those areas will help Slot’s system work better.
The report also suggests Liverpool’s hierarchy feel Slot can only really be judged fairly once he has a squad shaped more around his own ideas.
That’s obviously why they still seem determined to back him despite the frustration building among supporters.
Personally though, I still think other positions should be a bigger priority first.
For me, Liverpool desperately need a proper right-back and a strong defensive midfielder before anything else.
Too many teams have targeted Liverpool defensively this season, while the midfield has often looked too open and lacking protection.
Liverpool are expected to do more business beyond the winger positions as well, so it’s clear the club know this squad still needs major surgery after such a disappointing campaign.
The big question is whether fans still believe Slot is the right man to lead that rebuild.
