Liverpool go into half-time behind at Villa Park after Morgan Rogers gave Aston Villa the lead just a few minutes before the break.
It was a frustrating end to the half for Liverpool, especially because they had arguably just enjoyed their best spell of the game before conceding.
One of the positives for Liverpool has been the performance of Rio Ngumoha.
The youngster has looked lively down the left wing and has caused Villa problems with his direct running and confidence on the ball.
He has easily been one of Liverpool’s brightest attacking threats so far.
Cody Gakpo also thought he had given Liverpool the lead earlier in the half, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.
It was a reminder though that Liverpool were beginning to grow into the game before Villa struck.
The biggest frustration for Liverpool supporters will probably be the timing of the goal.
Conceding so close to half-time after finally building momentum completely changed the mood of the match.
And once again this season, Liverpool have been punished for failing to take advantage during their better periods.
There is still plenty of time left in the game, especially with attacking options like Mohamed Salah available on the bench.
But Liverpool now need a strong second-half response in what remains a massive match for their Champions League hopes.

These Liverpool tactics are atrocious and so amateurish.
I can’t believe FSG are wanting to keep Slot as he is completely at a loss as a team tactical manager.
He will be lucky to get them in the top ten next season.
How the mighty have tumbled…
