Liverpool’s Konaté Contract Delay Could Trigger Senesi Move

20 May

Questions are continuing to grow around the future of Ibrahima Konaté at Liverpool — and it could eventually lead Liverpool towards a move for Marcos Senesi.

While there has been plenty of outside speculation surrounding Konaté in recent weeks, the situation appears more complicated than many initially believed.

Reports suggest the French defender himself is actually keen to sign a new contract at Liverpool.

However, it is understood the club are currently the side slowing progress on a renewal rather than the player.

At one stage, there was growing confidence that an agreement was close.

And sources still suggest the situation could quickly move forward again if Liverpool decide to accelerate negotiations.

But internally, there are believed to be concerns regarding Konaté’s recent form and consistency levels during a difficult season defensively for the club.

That appears to have given Liverpool’s hierarchy something to seriously think about before committing fully to a major long-term deal.

Konaté remains one of Liverpool’s most physically dominant defenders and at his best has shown he can perform at elite level.

His pace, aerial strength and ability to defend aggressively make him a hugely important profile in modern football.

But like several Liverpool players this season, his performances have fluctuated during a turbulent campaign.

And with Liverpool already conceding alarming numbers of goals, defensive reliability has become a major talking point behind the scenes.

That is where Senesi’s name enters the conversation.

The Bournemouth defender has quietly built a strong reputation in the Premier League and is admired for his composure, aggression and leadership qualities at the back.

Liverpool are believed to appreciate his experience in English football as well as his left-footed balance in central defence.

Of course, much will still depend on what ultimately happens with Konaté.

Liverpool would ideally prefer to keep and renew the Frenchman rather than enter the market for a replacement.

But football moves quickly, and contract situations can change rapidly once uncertainty begins to develop.

The coming weeks therefore feel extremely important.

Liverpool are expected to undergo significant changes this summer following one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory.

Recruitment, contracts and defensive restructuring are all likely to become major priorities.

And whether Konaté remains part of those long-term plans could end up shaping Liverpool’s transfer strategy at centre-back entirely.

For now, the situation remains open.

But the growing links to Marcos Senesi suggest Liverpool are already preparing for every possible outcome.
