Calling Bruno Fernandes’ Season the Premier League’s Greatest? Has the Premier League Already Forgotten Mohamed Salah?

27 May

The Premier League promoting the idea that Bruno Fernandes may have produced “the best individual season of all time” has genuinely left many football supporters asking the same question:

Are they having a laugh?

Because while Bruno undoubtedly had a strong season individually for Manchester United calling it the greatest Premier League season ever feels completely ridiculous when you look at recent history alone.

How can football already forget what Mohamed Salah produced just last season for Liverpool ?

46 goal contributions.

Not 30 years ago.

Not in another generation.

Last season.

And unlike Bruno’s campaign, Salah’s performances actually carried genuine importance in the title race and at the highest level of competition.

That is what makes the comparison feel so strange.

What exactly did Bruno help Manchester United achieve this season?

No league title.

No major trophies.

No historic team success.

Meanwhile Liverpool and Manchester City were once again producing elite-level football in an intense battle at the top of the league.

Of course, perhaps this sudden hype exists because Bruno helped Manchester United finish above Liverpool this season — something that has not happened very often in recent years.

Maybe that alone has suddenly convinced people his season deserves “all-time” status.

But even then, it still feels massively exaggerated when compared to some of the campaigns Premier League fans have witnessed over the last decade.

Premier League greatness has always been about more than just statistics.

It is about impact.

Moments under pressure.

Winning the biggest matches.

Driving title-winning teams.

That is why seasons from players like:

  • Mohamed Salah
  • Kevin De Bruyne
  • Thierry Henry
  • Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Steven Gerrard

remain iconic.

Because they combined brilliance with genuine stakes and elite-level competition.

Salah’s recent campaign alone feels significantly more impressive than Bruno’s season.

Not only because of the numbers.

But because Liverpool were actually fighting for something meaningful while he delivered consistently at the very highest level.

And there is another reason many Liverpool supporters struggle with the idea of Bruno being celebrated in this way.

This is also a player many fans remember appearing to completely give up when Manchester United were humiliated 7-0 at Anfield not long ago.

That match became symbolic of Liverpool’s intensity and mentality completely overwhelming United.

For many supporters, true all-time Premier League greatness is not just about numbers when things are comfortable.

It is also about leadership, resilience and mentality in the toughest moments.

Many supporters also feel the Premier League’s constant promotion of certain players and clubs creates frustration.

There is sometimes a strange tendency to overhype individual numbers without properly acknowledging context.

And context matters massively.

A great season should ultimately elevate your team toward major success.

None of this is disrespect toward Bruno Fernandes as a player.

He remains one of the league’s most creative midfielders and carried huge responsibility for Manchester United this season.

But “best season of all time”?

That feels wildly exaggerated.

Especially when Premier League supporters have witnessed truly historic campaigns from Liverpool and Manchester City players in recent years alone.

And honestly, after what Salah delivered so recently, many Liverpool fans will understandably feel football’s memory has become incredibly short.
