Liverpool Offered Ilya Zabarnyi Transfer Opportunity as Andoni Iraola Link Could Shape Anfield Move

2 Jun

Liverpool have reportedly been presented with an opportunity to sign Ilya Zabarnyi from Paris Saint-Germain, with the club now facing a decision on whether to pursue a deal.

While there is no indication yet that Liverpool will act on the proposal, the link has immediately attracted attention for one major reason.

Andoni Iraola.

Should Iraola become Liverpool’s next head coach, Zabarnyi would arrive with something many transfer targets do not possess.

A manager who already knows exactly what he can do.

The Ukrainian defender previously worked under Iraola at Bournemouth and was one of the key figures in the Spaniard’s impressive side.

That existing relationship could make him an attractive option if Liverpool are searching for defensive reinforcements.

The timing of the rumour is also significant.

Liverpool’s defensive situation has become one of the biggest concerns heading into the summer.

With uncertainty surrounding several defenders and the apparent departure of Ibrahima Konaté, the club is expected to be active in the market for centre-backs.

That naturally makes every credible defensive link worthy of attention.

Zabarnyi’s development over recent seasons has been impressive.

Still only 23 years old, he combines physicality, composure on the ball and a maturity beyond his years.

His performances in the Premier League demonstrated that he is capable of handling the intensity and demands of English football.

That experience alone would make him an appealing option for Liverpool.

Unlike many overseas targets, he would not need time to adapt to the league.

Perhaps most importantly, he understands exactly what Iraola demands from his defenders.

The aggressive pressing.

The high defensive line.

The intensity without possession.

The bravery when playing out from the back.

Having worked within that system before, he could potentially slot into an Iraola team far more quickly than an entirely new signing.

Of course, there are still plenty of unanswered questions.

Would PSG be willing to sell?

What fee would be required?

Do Liverpool view him as a first-choice target or simply one option among many?

And most importantly, does the club believe he is capable of replacing the quality that may be leaving?

Those answers will determine whether the proposal develops into something more serious.

For now, Liverpool appear to have been handed an opportunity.

Whether they choose to take it remains to be seen.

But if Iraola is indeed heading to Anfield, it would not be a surprise to see familiar names from his Bournemouth days begin appearing more regularly in transfer discussions.

And Ilya Zabarnyi could be one of the first.
