Five Fixtures That Could Define Liverpool’s 2026-27 Premier League Season

19 Jun

Liverpool’s fixture list for the 2026-27 Premier League season has finally been revealed, and supporters are already beginning to identify the matches that could shape Andoni Iraola’s first campaign at Anfield.

Every season contains defining moments.

Matches that build momentum.

Matches that test belief.

And matches that ultimately influence whether a team lifts trophies or falls short.

Looking at Liverpool’s schedule, five fixtures immediately stand out.

1. Newcastle United (A) – Sunday 23 August

There are few tougher ways to begin a Premier League campaign than a trip to St James’ Park.

Newcastle have transformed their home ground into one of the league’s most intimidating venues, and Iraola will be thrown straight into a high-pressure environment.

A positive result would immediately boost confidence around Liverpool’s new era.

A difficult afternoon would serve as an early reminder of the challenge ahead.

First impressions matter.

2. Manchester City (H) – Saturday 10 October

If Liverpool want to challenge for the title again, they must prove they can compete with Manchester City.

Hosting Enzo Maresca’s side relatively early in the season gives Iraola an opportunity to make a statement.

Victory would send a clear message to the rest of the Premier League.

It could also provide Liverpool with the belief that they genuinely belong back among the title favourites.

3. Arsenal (H) – Saturday 31 October

Just three weeks after facing Manchester City, Liverpool welcome another direct rival to Anfield.

By this point, supporters should have a much clearer idea of where Iraola’s team stands.

Beating Arsenal would not only earn three valuable points but also strengthen Liverpool’s credentials as genuine contenders.

The atmosphere at Anfield promises to be electric.

4. Everton (A) – Saturday 28 November

No fixture means more emotionally than the Merseyside derby.

Good form often counts for very little once Liverpool and Everton meet.

For Iraola, this will be his first experience of one of English football’s fiercest rivalries.

Liverpool supporters will demand intensity, commitment and composure.

Winning at Everton is never easy, but doing so would quickly earn the new head coach enormous goodwill.

5. Manchester City (A) – Saturday 8 May

If Liverpool are still involved in the title race by May, this could prove to be the biggest match of the entire season.

Travelling to the Etihad at such a late stage could have enormous implications.

By then, every point becomes priceless.

Liverpool have often produced memorable performances against City in recent years, and supporters will hope this fixture becomes another famous chapter in that rivalry.
