BREAKING TRANSFER NEWS: Liverpool Among Clubs Interested in Stuttgart Winger Jamie Leweling

30 Aug

Liverpool could have another name on their shortlist as they continue to look at options in the wide areas.

According to journalist Peter Berger, Liverpool are among the clubs in the mix for Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling, with his future one to watch right up until Deadline Day.

With the transfer window rapidly approaching its conclusion, this is certainly a name worth keeping an eye on.

Liverpool’s search for another winger continues

Liverpool have already made a huge statement by completing the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French international has arrived in a deal worth around £106 million initially, potentially rising to £123 million with add-ons.

But the feeling around Liverpool is that their work in the attacking positions may not be finished.

And if Cody Gakpo does depart, the need for another wide player becomes even greater.

That could explain why players such as Leweling continue to be linked with a move to Anfield.

Who is Jamie Leweling?

Leweling is a 24-year-old German winger who plays for Stuttgart.

He’s a versatile attacking player who can operate on either flank and has also been used in more central positions.

That versatility could make him an attractive option for Liverpool.

One of the biggest challenges facing Andoni Iraola this season is having enough players capable of covering multiple positions.

A player who can operate on both wings gives the manager another option when injuries, suspensions or fixture congestion begin to take their toll.

Pace and directness

Leweling’s biggest strengths are his pace and willingness to attack defenders.

He’s the type of winger who wants to receive the ball and immediately drive forward.

That’s something Liverpool could certainly use.

There were too many occasions against Nottingham Forest where Liverpool’s attacking play became slow and predictable.

Having another player capable of carrying the ball quickly towards the opposition defence could give Iraola’s side another dimension.

👀 Why could Liverpool be interested?

Liverpool’s recruitment this summer has shown that they want players capable of making an immediate impact while also having room to develop.

Leweling fits an interesting middle ground.

He’s no longer a teenager learning the game, but he’s still young enough to improve significantly.

He’s also already accustomed to Bundesliga football and has experience at international level with Germany.

Most importantly, he’s comfortable playing in wide areas.

That is exactly what Liverpool appear to be looking for.

But this isn’t a done deal

It’s important not to get carried away.

The report says Liverpool are among the clubs in the mix.

It doesn’t say that negotiations are advanced or that a bid has been made.

That’s a big difference.

With Deadline Day approaching, there will inevitably be plenty of names linked with Liverpool as the club assesses its options.

Leweling is therefore one to watch rather than a player we should expect to see arriving at Anfield.

Another interesting name for Liverpool

Personally, I think this is an interesting link.

Liverpool have Barcola.

They have Muñoz.

They still have other options in the squad.

But if Gakpo leaves and Liverpool want another winger, adding someone with Leweling’s versatility and directness could make sense.

The important thing is that Liverpool don’t leave Iraola short of options.

We’ve already seen how thin the bench can look.

The season is going to be long.

Four competitions require a squad, not just a starting XI.

My verdict

I’m not suggesting Liverpool should suddenly abandon their other targets and sign Leweling.

But if he’s genuinely on the club’s radar, he’s certainly worth monitoring.

Jamie Leweling.

24 years old.

German international.

Capable of playing on either wing.

Quick.

Direct.

And potentially available if Stuttgart are prepared to listen.

With Deadline Day getting closer by the hour, Liverpool need to know exactly which targets they can realistically get over the line.

Leweling could be another name to watch.
