Liverpool’s injury concerns have surfaced once again after new signing Víctor Muñoz suffered another setback during his recovery while on international duty with Spain.
The 22-year-old had only recently returned to full training following an earlier injury and was part of the Spain squad for Monday’s goalless draw against Cape Verde.
However, hopes that he was nearing a full return have now been dealt a blow.
Fresh Injury Confirmed
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that Muñoz sustained a new muscle injury during his individual recovery programme.
In an official statement, the federation said:
“During the planned and individualised recovery process, an additional muscle injury has occurred, which will delay his return to competition. His availability for the upcoming matches will depend on the evolution of his symptoms.”
While no timescale has yet been placed on his return, the update is clearly disappointing for both Spain and Liverpool.
Frustrating Start to Liverpool Career
Muñoz only recently completed his move to Anfield and was expected to be one of the exciting new faces in Andoni Iraola’s first Liverpool squad.
Instead, his early weeks as a Liverpool player have been disrupted by fitness issues before he has even had the opportunity to establish himself.
Supporters will now be hoping this latest setback proves to be only a minor delay rather than the beginning of a longer-term problem.
Injury Concerns Continue
Unfortunately for Liverpool, injuries have become an all-too-familiar theme in recent seasons.
The club has repeatedly seen important players spend lengthy spells on the sidelines, often disrupting momentum and forcing managers to reshuffle their plans.
Recent campaigns have seen fitness issues affect several key figures, while Hugo Ekitike’s long-term injury has already left Liverpool without one of their major attacking options for the opening months of the season.
The club has also recently been reported to be reviewing aspects of its medical and sports science departments following ongoing concerns over player availability.
Iraola Will Be Hoping for Better Fortune
One of Andoni Iraola’s biggest priorities this season will be building a squad capable of sustaining his demanding, high-intensity style of football.
That becomes significantly more difficult if players are unavailable through injury.
Although Muñoz was not expected to shoulder the entire attacking burden immediately, every option matters across a long Premier League and European campaign.
His versatility across the forward line was viewed as one of his biggest strengths.
Fingers Crossed for a Quick Return
At this stage, there is no indication that the injury is serious, and Liverpool will await further assessments before determining the next steps in his rehabilitation.
Supporters will simply hope the setback is temporary.
Because after several seasons disrupted by injuries, the last thing Liverpool wanted was to see another new signing begin his Anfield career on the treatment table.
For now, everyone connected with the club will be hoping Víctor Muñoz can recover quickly and finally get the opportunity to show Liverpool supporters why the club worked so hard to bring him to Anfield.
