Liverpool’s search for attacking reinforcements continues to generate fresh speculation, with the Reds now reportedly among the clubs keeping a close eye on Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup.
According to Empire of the Kop, Liverpool are one of several teams following the Norwegian international, who could reportedly be available this summer for around €30 million (£25.8 million).
While there is no suggestion that Liverpool have made a formal approach, Schjelderup is the latest name to emerge as the club continues assessing potential additions.
A Rising Talent
Still only 21 years old, Schjelderup has long been regarded as one of Norway’s brightest young attacking players.
Capable of playing on either wing or in a more central attacking role, he has impressed with his technical ability, close control and willingness to take on defenders.
His strengths include:
● Excellent dribbling ability
● Creativity in the final third
● Versatility across the front line
● Strong one-versus-one play
● High technical quality
Those qualities have helped him earn regular opportunities at Benfica while continuing his development.
Why Liverpool Could Be Interested
The report fits Liverpool’s recent recruitment strategy.
The Reds have consistently been linked with young, technically gifted attackers who offer long-term potential as well as immediate quality.
With Andoni Iraola now leading the team, Liverpool are expected to prioritise players capable of thriving in an aggressive, high-intensity system.
Schjelderup’s pace, directness and versatility appear well suited to that style of football.
A More Affordable Option?
One aspect that may attract Liverpool is the reported valuation.
At around €30 million, Schjelderup would represent a considerably less expensive option than some of the other attacking players linked with the club this summer.
With Liverpool continuing to strengthen several areas of the squad, securing value in the transfer market remains important.
If the reported fee proves accurate, it could make Schjelderup an attractive opportunity.
Plenty of Competition
Liverpool are not believed to be alone in their admiration.
The report suggests several clubs are monitoring the Norwegian, meaning any move could become competitive if Benfica decide to sell.
As always, there is a significant difference between scouting a player and actively negotiating a transfer, but Schjelderup is clearly attracting attention across Europe.
Another Name to Watch
Liverpool have been linked with numerous attacking players throughout the transfer window, including Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola and several other emerging talents.
Schjelderup now joins that growing list.
Whether he ultimately becomes a serious target remains to be seen, but the latest report suggests Liverpool’s recruitment team continue to cast a wide net as they search for players capable of strengthening the squad both now and in the future.
