Liverpool’s search for a long-term solution at right-back appears to be taking a different direction after fresh reports suggested the Reds chose not to pursue a move for Marco Palestra.
According to the latest claims, Palestra was offered to both Liverpool and Arsenal by his representatives, but neither club advanced discussions.
The talented defender is now reportedly expected to join Chelsea in a deal worth around €60 million.
If accurate, Liverpool appear content to focus on alternative targets.
Liverpool Decline to Progress Interest
While Palestra is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young full-backs, the report suggests Liverpool decided not to move forward despite being presented with the opportunity.
There has been no official explanation for that decision, but Liverpool’s recruitment team are understood to be considering several different profiles before making their next move in the market.
That cautious approach has become a hallmark of the club’s transfer strategy.
Alternative Targets Already Identified
Rather than concentrating on one player, Liverpool reportedly continue to monitor several right-backs, including:
● Michael Kayode
● Givairo Read
● Amar Dedić
All three players offer different qualities but fit the broad profile Liverpool have favoured in recent transfer windows.
Young.
Athletic.
Technically comfortable.
And capable of contributing in high-intensity systems.
More Names Could Yet Emerge
Perhaps the most interesting part of the report is the suggestion that unexpected names are likely to appear in the media over the coming weeks.
Liverpool have often surprised supporters during previous transfer windows by moving for players who had received very little public attention beforehand.
That reflects the club’s extensive scouting network and data-led recruitment model, which frequently identifies talent before it becomes obvious to the wider football world.
Supporters should therefore not be surprised if new right-back options begin appearing as the window develops.
Liverpool Taking a Measured Approach
The decision not to pursue Palestra also reinforces Liverpool’s reputation for discipline in the transfer market.
The club have repeatedly shown they will not complete deals simply because a player becomes available.
Instead, recruitment appears centred on identifying footballers who fit both the tactical requirements of the head coach and the club’s long-term planning.
With Andoni Iraola now in charge, Liverpool are expected to prioritise players capable of thriving in an aggressive pressing system while also offering tactical flexibility.
No Need to Rush
Liverpool are already well stocked at right-back with Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley, meaning there is no immediate pressure to complete another signing.
That gives the recruitment team time to evaluate multiple options rather than forcing through a transfer.
Whether the next arrival is Michael Kayode, Givairo Read, Amar Dedić or a completely unexpected name remains to be seen.
One thing does appear clear.
Liverpool’s search is continuing, and supporters should expect plenty more speculation before the club makes its final decision.
