Liverpool enquire about Bruno Guimarães as Ben Jacobs reveals transfer stance

Liverpool have reportedly made an initial enquiry over Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, but there appears to have been little progress beyond those early discussions.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, the Reds spoke to the Brazilian’s representatives to explore the possibility of a move, but unlike Arsenal, they have yet to make any formal approach.

Speaking to Redmen TV, Jacobs explained that Liverpool’s interest has been limited to an initial conversation.

“There was an initial inquiry on the player side with Bruno Guimaraes, and we know in the last 24/48 hours, Arsenal are the ones that have actually put a number over his head.

“Liverpool just did what Manchester United did months back, they spoke with the agent and that was it. So I’m not aware that they’re progressing there either.”

Those comments suggest that while Guimarães remains a player admired at Anfield, there is currently no indication that Liverpool are preparing to launch a serious bid.

Liverpool may be looking for a different profile

Jacobs also believes Liverpool’s recruitment team could favour a younger midfield option rather than pursuing the 28-year-old Newcastle star.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they want a younger kind of profile,” he added.

That would fit with Liverpool’s recent transfer strategy, which has focused heavily on signing players entering their peak years or with significant room for development.

The club have consistently targeted younger talent in recent windows, and although Guimarães is one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders, Liverpool may ultimately decide that investing in a younger player represents better long-term value.

Newcastle remain reluctant sellers

Another major obstacle is Newcastle’s stance.

The Magpies have made it clear they do not want to lose one of the most influential players in Eddie Howe’s squad, meaning any deal would almost certainly require a huge transfer fee.

Jacobs also referenced Liverpool’s previous attempts to strengthen their midfield, recalling their failed pursuits of Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia before the club eventually rebuilt the position through alternative signings.

With Newcastle under little pressure to sell and Liverpool seemingly considering other profiles, a move for Guimarães currently looks difficult despite the initial enquiry.

That could still change later in the window if circumstances shift, but for now Liverpool’s interest appears to be exactly that—interest rather than active negotiations.
