David Ornstein: Yan Diomande Chooses PSG Over Liverpool if He Leaves RB Leipzig

28 Jun

Liverpool’s hopes of signing highly-rated winger Yan Diomande appear to have suffered a significant setback.

According to David Ornstein, the 19-year-old has chosen Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred destination if he leaves RB Leipzig this summer.

The report claims the Ivory Coast international believes PSG offers the ideal environment to continue his development, with the club’s long-term project and ambitions proving decisive.

Why Diomande Prefers PSG

According to the report, Diomande has been convinced by the vision presented by PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, football advisor Luis Campos and head coach Luis Enrique.

The winger reportedly believes a move to Paris would give him the best opportunity to:

  • Compete for major trophies every season.
  • Continue his development under one of Europe’s leading coaches.
  • Establish himself among the world’s elite players.
  • Potentially challenge for the Ballon d’Or in the future.

For a player with enormous ambition, PSG’s recent success and squad quality appear to have made a strong impression.

A Blow for Liverpool

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Diomande throughout the summer.

Reports suggested the Reds had already submitted offers to RB Leipzig and viewed the teenager as one of their priority attacking targets.

The club’s recruitment team clearly saw him as a player capable of fitting perfectly into Andoni Iraola’s high-intensity style of football.

However, if Ornstein’s report is accurate, convincing the player may now prove more difficult than agreeing a fee with Leipzig.

Liverpool May Need to Move On

Transfer windows often hinge on player preference.

Even when clubs agree a valuation, the player’s decision can ultimately determine where a transfer ends up.

If Diomande has genuinely decided PSG is his preferred destination, Liverpool may soon be forced to consider alternative targets rather than becoming involved in a prolonged battle.

Fortunately for the Reds, they have consistently demonstrated an ability to identify multiple options in every position.

PSG’s Next Move

The report states that Diomande has chosen PSG as his preferred destination.

Whether the French champions can now reach an agreement with RB Leipzig remains another matter entirely.

Leipzig have consistently maintained a strong negotiating position throughout the summer and are unlikely to allow one of Europe’s brightest young talents to leave without receiving a fee they believe reflects his potential.

That means the transfer is far from complete.

Liverpool’s Summer Continues

Missing out on a priority target would undoubtedly disappoint supporters.

However, Liverpool’s recruitment team have repeatedly shown they are prepared to move quickly when circumstances change.

Whether the club continue pursuing Diomande or turn their attention elsewhere, the coming weeks promise to be crucial as Liverpool look to strengthen their attacking options before the new season begins.

For now, though, the latest report suggests that if Yan Diomande leaves RB Leipzig this summer, his preferred destination is no longer Anfield—but Paris.
