Jürgen Klopp Backs Liverpool to Bounce Back Under Andoni Iraola After Difficult Season

28 Jun

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has offered his thoughts on the club’s disappointing campaign, admitting he is unsure exactly what went wrong while expressing confidence that Liverpool can recover under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Speaking to ESPN UK, Klopp reflected on Liverpool’s dramatic drop in form following their Premier League title-winning season.

“No idea [why]. I’m not close enough to judge that.”

The German admitted that, from the outside, it is impossible for him to fully understand the reasons behind Liverpool’s struggles.

Klopp Still Sees Positives

Although Liverpool endured a frustrating campaign by their own high standards, Klopp was keen to point out that the season was not without success.

“Nobody was extremely happy with the season, that was obvious but they still qualified for the Champions League.”

For many clubs, Champions League qualification would represent an outstanding achievement.

At Liverpool, however, expectations are understandably much higher.

After lifting the Premier League trophy the previous year, supporters hoped the club would build on that success rather than take a step backwards.

Faith in Andoni Iraola

Perhaps the most encouraging part of Klopp’s comments came when discussing Liverpool’s new manager.

“Andoni Iraola is a great coach as well, like Arne Slot is.”

Klopp’s praise will undoubtedly excite Liverpool supporters.

Iraola arrives at Anfield with an excellent reputation after impressive work in Spain and the Premier League, and many believe his aggressive, high-intensity football is well suited to Liverpool’s identity.

Receiving such positive words from one of the club’s greatest-ever managers only strengthens that optimism.

Success Takes Time

Klopp also delivered an important reminder that football projects cannot be judged overnight.

“It has to click together for a long time and for that you need luck.”

Those words reflect Klopp’s own experience at Liverpool.

His legendary team was not built in a single season.

It required patience, gradual improvement and, as Klopp acknowledged, a degree of fortune with injuries, form and momentum.

That message is particularly relevant as Iraola begins his own journey at Anfield.

Lessons for Liverpool Supporters

Supporters will naturally expect progress immediately.

Liverpool remain one of the biggest clubs in world football, and expectations never disappear.

However, Klopp’s comments serve as a reminder that even elite managers need time for ideas to take hold.

New systems.

New coaching staff.

New signings.

Those elements rarely come together instantly.

Looking Forward

Liverpool now enter a new chapter.

The squad has been refreshed.

Several exciting young players are pushing for opportunities.

Andoni Iraola has already begun shaping the team in his image.

Klopp may no longer be on the touchline, but his belief that Liverpool can bounce back will provide encouragement to supporters hoping for a return to the top.

If the new manager can build the same connection with his players that Klopp once did, there is every reason to believe Liverpool’s difficult season will prove to be nothing more than a temporary setback.

As Klopp himself suggested, sometimes success simply needs time—and a little bit of luck.
