One of the most encouraging aspects of Liverpool’s pre-season so far has not been a new signing or a transfer rumour.
It has been the opportunities being handed to the club’s young players.
Twelve academy prospects were involved in first-team training today as Andoni Iraola continued his assessment of Liverpool’s next generation.
The players involved were:

● Josh Abe
● Lewis Koumas
● Will Wright
● Kieran Morrison
● Calvin Ramsay
● Calum Scanlon
● Tommy Pilling
● Harvey Davies

For the players themselves, it represents a huge opportunity.
For Liverpool supporters, it is another encouraging sign of how Iraola intends to build his squad.
A Manager Who Believes in Young Players
Throughout his coaching career, Andoni Iraola has developed a reputation for giving talented youngsters genuine opportunities.
At previous clubs, he was never afraid to promote academy players if they proved they were ready.

One reason these sessions are so valuable is because Iraola’s football places enormous demands on players.
The pressing.
The running.
The physicality.
The tactical discipline.
If these youngsters can cope with that environment now, it will accelerate their development enormously.
Even if they do not make the first team immediately, the experience should benefit them for years to come.
Liverpool’s Future Is Already Here
Liverpool have long prided themselves on producing academy talent.
From Steven Gerrard to Trent Alexander-Arnold, the pathway has always existed.
Supporters are now hoping players such as Rio Ngumoha, Trey Nyoni and Jeremy Jacquet are only the beginning.
The presence of another twelve academy players in first-team training suggests Liverpool remain fully committed to developing talent from within.
A Positive Sign for the Club
Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Iraola appears willing to look closely at every promising player available.
He could easily have focused exclusively on senior professionals.
Instead, he is giving young players the chance to learn, develop and prove themselves.
