Beşiktaş President Reveals Why Mohamed Salah Transfer Collapsed

19 Jul

Mohamed Salah’s proposed move to Beşiktaş has reportedly fallen apart, and the Turkish club’s president has now offered an explanation.

Speaking publicly, Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı claimed that what initially looked like a straightforward transfer ultimately collapsed because of what he described as “unbelievable” financial demands made during negotiations.

If his account is accurate, it appears the issue was not Salah himself—but the terms surrounding the deal.

“Salah Gave His Approval”

According to Adalı, Beşiktaş had made significant progress in negotiations.

He explained:

“Salah spoke to both our technical director and our sporting director and gave his approval as well.”

That suggests the player was open to joining the Turkish giants after waiting until the conclusion of the World Cup to decide his next destination.

For a period, it appeared the transfer was on course to be completed.

Negotiations Took a Dramatic Turn

However, Adalı claims everything changed once reports emerged suggesting the move had been agreed.

He alleged:

“But later, as soon as it was written in the media that ‘the transfer had been completed’, the agent raised the financial demands.”

According to the Beşiktaş president, the requested commission increased to around 35%, a figure he said the club simply could not accept.

“We Cannot Accept That”

Adalı did not hide his frustration.

He stated:

“The agent raised his commission to unbelievable figures, reaching about 35 percent. From our side, such a percentage cannot be accepted under any circumstances.”

If those figures are accurate, it is understandable why negotiations broke down.

Deals involving elite players often include substantial commissions, but a demand of that size would represent an enormous financial commitment.

Salah Aware?

Perhaps the most intriguing part of Adalı’s comments came at the end.

He added:

“We do not believe that Salah is aware of these figures.”

That remark raises obvious questions about whether the player himself knew the full details of the negotiations or whether the dispute centred entirely on discussions between the clubs and his representatives.

Without hearing from Salah’s camp, it is impossible to know the full picture.

What Happens Next?

Salah remains one of the biggest names available on the transfer market.

Interest from the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer has been widely reported, and it would be no surprise if other clubs also explored the possibility of signing him.

Despite leaving Liverpool, the Egyptian international remains one of world football’s most recognisable forwards and is unlikely to be short of offers.

Another Twist in Salah’s Future

This latest development is another reminder that even when clubs and players appear to have reached common ground, transfers can still collapse over the finer details.

Whether Beşiktaş’s version of events tells the whole story remains to be seen.

What is clear is that Mohamed Salah’s search for his next club continues, and one transfer that looked close has now broken down in dramatic fashion.
