Liverpool’s pre-season preparations are gradually gathering momentum, with several of the club’s biggest names expected to link up with the squad over the coming days.
Following extended breaks after international duty, the Reds’ senior players are set to return in phases as Andoni Iraola continues preparing his squad for the new campaign.
According to the latest timetable, supporters can expect the following arrivals:
● July 21 – Florian Wirtz
● July 22 – Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak
● July 27 – Alisson Becker
Wirtz’s Arrival Will Generate Excitement
The first major arrival is expected to be Florian Wirtz on 21 July.
Liverpool supporters will be eager to see one of Europe’s most gifted attacking midfielders begin working under Iraola.
After starring for Germany on the international stage, Wirtz will now have the opportunity to build relationships with his new teammates and begin adapting to Liverpool’s tactical approach.
Many fans will be particularly interested to see how Iraola integrates him into the side during the remaining pre-season fixtures.
A Huge Boost on 22 July
Just one day later, Liverpool are expected to welcome back a group of key first-team players.
Captain Virgil van Dijk returns alongside fellow Dutch international Ryan Gravenberch, while Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak are also due to rejoin the squad.
That quartet represents the spine of Liverpool’s team.
Van Dijk brings leadership and experience.
Gravenberch offers athleticism and control in midfield.
Gakpo provides versatility in attack.
Isak returns as Liverpool’s leading striker.
Their arrival will significantly strengthen the group as preparations intensify.
Alisson to Return Later
Liverpool supporters will have to wait a little longer for Alisson Becker, who is expected back on 27 July.
The Brazilian goalkeeper has enjoyed another demanding period with his national team, and the club will naturally want to ensure he returns refreshed and ready for the season ahead.
With Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Armin Pecsi already training, Liverpool remain well covered in the goalkeeping department until Alisson rejoins the squad.
Building Towards the New Season
Staggered returns are common following major international tournaments.
They allow players adequate recovery while giving coaching staff the opportunity to gradually increase workloads before competitive football begins.
For Andoni Iraola, the next couple of weeks will be crucial.
As more senior players return, Liverpool’s head coach will finally be able to work with something close to his strongest squad.
Excitement Building at Anfield
Every returning player brings Liverpool one step closer to full strength.
With Wirtz, Van Dijk, Gravenberch, Gakpo, Isak and Alisson all due back before the end of July, supporters will soon get a much clearer picture of how Iraola intends his new-look Liverpool side to play.
The countdown to the new season is well and truly underway—and Liverpool’s biggest names are almost ready to begin.
