Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has become much clearer—but no easier.
According to Ben Jacobs, Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to sell the French winger, but only for a fee in the region of €170 million (£145 million).
That valuation immediately makes Barcola one of the most expensive players Liverpool have ever considered.
Why PSG Value Him So Highly
The reported asking price has not been chosen at random.
According to Jacobs, PSG believe several factors justify such a valuation.
Barcola is:
● A back-to-back UEFA Champions League winner.
● Coming off a strong FIFA World Cup.
● Still only 23 years old.
● A player attracting interest from multiple elite clubs.
PSG are also reportedly using the recent transfer fees paid for Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson as benchmarks when assessing Barcola’s market value.
From their perspective, there is little reason to accept a discounted offer.
Liverpool Still Hope to Negotiate
Despite the huge valuation, Liverpool have not given up hope.
The Reds are understood to believe there is room for negotiation and will attempt to reduce the asking price if talks progress.
That would be entirely consistent with Liverpool’s recruitment strategy.
The club has rarely paid the first price quoted and has built a reputation for negotiating firmly before completing major transfers.
Is Barcola Worth It?
There is little doubt about Barcola’s talent.
The French international possesses many of the qualities Liverpool are searching for:
● Explosive pace.
● Elite dribbling ability.
● Direct attacking play.
● Creativity in wide areas.
● The versatility to play across the front line.
At 23, he also fits perfectly into the age profile Liverpool usually target.
The question is not whether he is a top-class player.
The question is whether he is worth £145 million.
Liverpool Must Stay Disciplined
As exciting as Barcola would be, Liverpool cannot afford to lose sight of the bigger picture.
The squad still requires strengthening in several areas.
Spending such a significant portion of the transfer budget on one player would inevitably impact the club’s ability to reinforce elsewhere.
That is why Liverpool are likely to remain patient rather than panic.
Competition Could Complicate Matters
Another factor working against Liverpool is the level of interest.
Jacobs reports that several clubs have already made enquiries.
If a bidding war develops, PSG’s negotiating position will only become stronger.
Liverpool may therefore have to decide whether Barcola is worth stretching their financial limits—or whether it is wiser to move on to alternative targets.

For now, the situation is straightforward.
PSG are willing to sell.
Liverpool are interested.
The price is the obstacle.
