Liverpool’s transfer priorities could still change before the window closes—but only if one of their current midfielders leaves the club.
At this stage, the Reds are not expected to prioritise signing another midfielder unless there is an outgoing transfer.
That means much of Liverpool’s business may hinge on the future of Curtis Jones.

Jones continues to be linked with a move away from Anfield, with reports suggesting he remains in talks with another club.
Despite that speculation, Andoni Iraola is understood to be keen for the academy graduate to stay.
The new Liverpool head coach values Jones’ versatility, energy and technical ability, and would prefer to keep him as part of his midfield options for the coming season.
Whether Jones decides to remain or seek a new challenge could have a major impact on Liverpool’s recruitment plans.
Adam Wharton Still Admired
If Liverpool are forced back into the midfield market, one name continues to stand out.
Adam Wharton.
The Crystal Palace midfielder has been admired internally for some time and remains under consideration.
Wharton’s composure, passing range and ability to dictate the tempo of games make him one of England’s most highly rated young midfielders.
Liverpool have monitored his progress closely, and he would likely become a serious option if a vacancy opens up in the squad.
Barcola Still the Main Priority
For now, however, Liverpool’s focus remains elsewhere.
The club’s immediate objective is still to strengthen in attack, with Bradley Barcola continuing to be viewed as the preferred winger.
Negotiations are understood to be ongoing, and Liverpool remain hopeful they can find common ground with Paris Saint-Germain.
Only once the winger situation is resolved are the Reds expected to turn their full attention to strengthening in defence.
Defence Next in Line
Liverpool are also determined to add another defender before the transfer window closes.
Defensive depth has become a clear concern following departures and injuries, and reinforcing the back line is seen as another important step in Iraola’s rebuild.
That means, as things currently stand, the order of priorities appears to be:
1. A winger.
2. A defender.
3. A midfielder—only if someone leaves.
