Trey Nyoni’s Wrexham Display Shows Why Liverpool May Have a Future £100m Midfielder

30 Jul

It was only 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly.

But Trey Nyoni once again showed why so many Liverpool supporters are so excited about his future.

The 18-year-old produced another composed performance in the victory over Wrexham, displaying the technical quality and maturity that have made him one of the club’s brightest young prospects.

His statistics tell an impressive story.

Nyoni by the Numbers

In just 45 minutes against Wrexham, Nyoni recorded:

● 67 touches

● 59/63 accurate passes (94%)

● 3 defensive contributions

● 8 passes into the final third

● 1 tackle

● 2 interceptions

● 5 recoveries

● 1/3 duels won (33%)

For such a young midfielder, those numbers are extremely encouraging.

He was heavily involved in Liverpool’s build-up play, kept possession superbly and constantly looked to move the ball forward.

His Composure Stands Out

What continues to impress most is not just Nyoni’s technique.

It’s his composure.

He never appears rushed.

He receives the ball under pressure with confidence, makes intelligent decisions and rarely wastes possession.

That calmness is something usually associated with far more experienced players.

For an 18-year-old, it is remarkable.

One Area Still Needs Work

There is, however, one obvious area for improvement.

The physical side of the game.

Winning just one of his three duels highlights that he is still developing physically.

That is hardly surprising.

He is still growing and adapting to senior football.

If Nyoni can add strength over the next couple of years while maintaining his technical qualities, he could become a complete midfielder.

A Huge Ceiling

That is why so many supporters believe Liverpool have something very special on their hands.

The football intelligence is already there.

The passing range is already there.

The positional awareness is already there.

Add greater physicality and the ability to dominate midfield battles, and Liverpool could have a player worth an extraordinary amount in the modern transfer market.

It is not difficult to imagine Nyoni developing into a midfielder valued at £100 million if his progression continues.

Iraola’s Influence Could Be Crucial

Andoni Iraola has built a reputation for developing young players.

His willingness to trust talented youngsters should only benefit Nyoni’s development.

The Liverpool head coach demands energy, bravery in possession and tactical intelligence.

Nyoni already possesses those qualities.

The next step is building the physical side of his game without losing the elegance that makes him such an exciting talent.

Liverpool’s Midfield Future

Liverpool supporters have every reason to be excited.

The club already boasts outstanding midfielders in Florian Wirtz, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Behind them, Trey Nyoni continues to develop at an impressive rate.

If he keeps progressing, Liverpool may not need to spend huge money on another elite midfielder in the future.

They might already have one developing at Kirkby.

And if he can bulk up and begin winning those midfield battles consistently, the phrase “£100 million midfielder” may not sound exaggerated for much longer.
