Ibrahim Mbaye Can Leave PSG — Could Liverpool Make Their Move?

16 Aug

Liverpool’s interest in Ibrahim Mbaye could be about to become even more serious.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Paris Saint-Germain youngster can leave the club during the final weeks of the transfer window.

That could be significant news for Liverpool, who have been closely linked with the highly-rated winger in recent weeks.

Liverpool have been watching Mbaye

Liverpool’s interest in Mbaye is no secret.

The Reds have reportedly held discussions with his representatives and have been considering a move for the teenager as they look to strengthen their options in attack.

Mbaye is regarded as one of the exciting young talents coming through at PSG, and Liverpool’s recruitment team clearly appear to see significant potential in him.

Now, with Romano reporting that PSG are willing to let him leave, the situation could be worth watching very closely.

Could this open the door for Liverpool?

The obvious question is whether Liverpool will now make their move.

The Reds are understood to be interested in both Mbaye and Bradley Barcola, although signing the two PSG attackers would represent a huge investment.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola has been gathering plenty of attention, while Mbaye represents a very different type of signing.

Barcola could potentially make an immediate impact in the first team.

Mbaye would be more of a long-term investment in a player Liverpool believe could develop into a top-level star.

And that’s exactly the type of signing Liverpool have made a habit of pursuing.

PSG’s position could be changing

PSG have already strengthened their attacking options this summer.

The French champions have brought in Ferran Torres from Barcelona and have also agreed a deal for Mika Godts from Ajax.

That makes their squad increasingly competitive for attacking positions.

If PSG are genuinely prepared to allow Mbaye to leave, Liverpool could see this as an opportunity.

But there’s still a major question:

What price will PSG demand?

Previous reports have suggested that Mbaye could command a significant fee, although figures have varied considerably.

For a player so young, Liverpool would have to be convinced that his potential justifies the investment.

And what about Barcola?

This is where things get really interesting.

Could Liverpool potentially sign both?

It would certainly be one of the most ambitious attacking windows in the club’s history.

Imagine Iraola having:

  • Alexander Isak
  • Florian Wirtz
  • Bradley Barcola
  • Cody Gakpo
  • Federico Chiesa
  • Rio Ngumoha
  • Ibrahim Mbaye
  • Victor Muñoz

That is an extraordinary collection of attacking talent.

But realistically, Liverpool may have to choose.

Barcola would appear to be the priority if reports of Liverpool’s interest are accurate, while Mbaye could be viewed as an opportunity to secure one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.

The timing is interesting

Romano’s update comes at an important point in the transfer window.

There are only weeks remaining for clubs to complete their business.

PSG now appear to be open to Mbaye leaving.

Liverpool have an interest.

And the Reds are still looking for ways to improve Iraola’s attacking options.

The ingredients are certainly there for something to happen.

Whether Liverpool actually make an offer is another matter.

But if the club genuinely believes Mbaye can become a future superstar, this could be the moment to act.

Could Mbaye be heading to Anfield?

For now, we shouldn’t get carried away.

Romano’s report says Mbaye can leave PSG, not that Liverpool have agreed a deal or even made a formal bid.

But it certainly changes the situation.

Liverpool have been linked.

PSG are apparently willing to listen.

And the transfer window is entering its final weeks.

Could Ibrahim Mbaye be the next PSG youngster to swap Paris for Anfield?

This is one transfer story I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on.
