Liverpool Ready to Reward Rio Ngumoha With Huge New Contract

19 Aug

Liverpool are preparing to secure the long-term future of Rio Ngumoha, with the teenage winger expected to sign a new five-year contract once he turns 18 later this month.

According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, Ngumoha will also receive a significant pay rise, reflecting his rapid emergence as a genuine first-team player.

And considering how quickly his Liverpool career has developed, it is difficult to argue that he doesn’t deserve it.

From teenager to first-team regular

Ngumoha has gone from being an exciting academy prospect to someone Liverpool supporters are genuinely expecting to see regularly in the first team.

His fearless approach has already made him a fan favourite.

He wants the ball.

He wants to run at defenders.

And, perhaps most importantly, he doesn’t seem scared of playing against senior opposition.

That mentality is exactly what you want from a young winger.

Liverpool clearly believe in him

A new five-year contract would be a huge statement from Liverpool.

Ngumoha only turns 18 on August 29, meaning he can then commit to a longer professional contract.

The proposed deal would reportedly run until 2031.

That’s Liverpool saying:

We don’t just see you as a promising youngster. We see you as part of our future.

And I absolutely love that.

Barcola could actually help Ngumoha

Interestingly, Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola could actually benefit Ngumoha rather than harm his chances.

Barcola is primarily a left winger, which is Ngumoha’s natural position.

But reports suggest Andoni Iraola wants Ngumoha to develop his game on the right as well

That could give Liverpool two exciting young attacking options who can play on opposite sides.

Imagine Barcola on the left and Ngumoha on the right, with Wirtz and Isak operating centrally.

That’s an incredibly exciting prospect.

Don’t expect everything immediately

We also need to remember that Ngumoha is still only 17.

There will be difficult games.

There will be periods where he doesn’t play.

There will be occasions where experienced defenders make life difficult for him.

That’s part of his development.

Liverpool shouldn’t put too much pressure on him simply because he’s already shown flashes of brilliance.

The important thing is that Iraola clearly trusts him enough to give him a significant role.

This could be the start of something special

Liverpool supporters have seen plenty of young players come through the academy over the years.

But every now and again, one comes along who feels different.

Ngumoha has that feeling.

His confidence, acceleration and willingness to attack defenders make him incredibly exciting to watch.

Now Liverpool are reportedly preparing to reward him with a significant pay rise and a contract that could keep him at Anfield until 2031.

Liverpool believe in Rio Ngumoha.

Iraola believes in Rio Ngumoha.

And judging by what we’ve seen so far…

Liverpool supporters should believe in him too.
