Liverpool in “Intense” Talks With Arsenal Over Ethan Nwaneri

19 Aug

Liverpool’s transfer business could be about to take another fascinating turn.

According to the latest report from London, Liverpool and Arsenal have been locked in high-level talks over Ethan Nwaneri, with discussions reportedly taking place throughout the day.

The subject of those talks?

Arsenal’s hugely talented 19-year-old.

And there is a particularly interesting part to this story: Arsenal are reportedly prepared to sell Nwaneri this summer.

Recent reports have already indicated that Nwaneri is expected to leave Arsenal before the transfer window closes, with Premier League and European clubs showing interest.

👀 Liverpool could make a surprise move

Nwaneri isn’t a player you would necessarily have expected Liverpool to be negotiating for a few weeks ago.

But the situation at Arsenal has changed.

Despite his enormous potential, Nwaneri’s pathway into regular first-team football has become increasingly complicated, with Arsenal’s strengthened squad making opportunities harder to come by. Mikel Arteta has also acknowledged that regular playing time is important for the youngster’s development.

Now Liverpool appear to be exploring whether they can take advantage.

And I have to say, I’d absolutely love this signing.

🔴 Why Nwaneri makes sense for Liverpool

Liverpool already have a young attacking player in Rio Ngumoha who is beginning to establish himself around the first team.

Adding Nwaneri would give Andoni Iraola another incredibly exciting young English talent.

Nwaneri can play as an attacking midfielder or winger, and his technical ability makes him particularly dangerous between the lines.

He’s also already experienced Premier League football despite his age, having famously become the youngest player ever to appear in the competition when he made his Arsenal debut at just 15.

This wouldn’t be Liverpool signing an unknown academy prospect.

This would be a player who has already shown he can operate at senior level.

Could he be perfect for Iraola?

I think so.

Iraola wants his team to play with intensity, pace and attacking movement.

Nwaneri has the technical ability to receive the ball under pressure, turn and drive forward.

He can operate centrally or from the wing, which would give Iraola another tactical option.

And imagine him learning alongside Florian Wirtz.

That could be some education.

But why would Arsenal sell him?

That’s the biggest question.

Arsenal clearly rate Nwaneri — he signed a new long-term contract with the club last summer — but the current squad situation means there are questions about whether they can offer him the minutes he needs.

If Arsenal genuinely believe he is unlikely to get enough football, selling him now could generate a significant fee.

But from Liverpool’s perspective, this could represent an opportunity.

Don’t just buy for today. Buy for tomorrow.

That’s exactly what Nwaneri would be.

Liverpool could be building something special

Look at the young attacking talent now being linked with Liverpool:

Rio Ngumoha.

Ibrahim Mbaye.

Bradley Barcola.

Kenan Yıldız.

And now Ethan Nwaneri.

Not all of those deals will happen, of course.

But there is clearly an emphasis on adding young, explosive and technically gifted attacking players who can grow together.

And that’s incredibly exciting.

Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly talking.

Nwaneri reportedly available.

Arsenal looking to sell.

Liverpool interested.

If these talks are genuinely as advanced as being suggested, this could be one of the surprise transfers of Liverpool’s summer.

And personally, I’d be very happy to see Ethan Nwaneri at Anfield.
