Liverpool’s search for attacking reinforcements could be about to take another interesting turn.
According to an exclusive report from Indykaila News, both Yankuba Minteh and Ismaïla Sarr have agreed personal terms with Liverpool.
If accurate, that would represent a significant development as the Reds continue to work on their attacking options before the transfer window closes.
However, personal terms are only part of the equation.
Liverpool still need to reach agreements with the players’ clubs.
Personal terms reportedly agreed
The report claims that both Minteh and Sarr have already agreed terms with Liverpool.
That’s potentially huge.
It would mean the players themselves are apparently open to moving to Anfield and that the remaining obstacle is negotiating with their respective clubs.
And Liverpool certainly have plenty of work to do.
Brighton have been reluctant to lose Minteh, while Crystal Palace have also made it clear that Sarr isn’t simply going to be allowed to walk away.
So Liverpool now need to turn interest into agreements.
Minteh has been on Liverpool’s radar
Minteh has been one of the names heavily linked with Liverpool throughout the summer.
The Brighton winger has attracted significant interest after an impressive period on the south coast.
Liverpool have already explored a deal for him and, according to previous reports, have considered making another move despite Brighton’s high valuation.
The attraction is obvious.
Minteh is young, powerful and direct.
He can play from the right side and has the pace to cause serious problems for Premier League defenders.
But Brighton know exactly what they have.
And they aren’t under pressure to sell cheaply.
Sarr is another intriguing option
Then there’s Sarr.
The Crystal Palace forward offers something slightly different.
He’s experienced.
He’s quick.
He’s versatile.
And he has already proven that he can cause Liverpool problems himself.
In fact, his record against the Reds is remarkable.
That makes him an interesting potential addition to Iraola’s attack.
He could play on either flank and provide another option through the middle when required.
The difficult part starts now
Even if both reports of personal agreements are correct, Liverpool still have the biggest part of the negotiations to complete.
The clubs have to agree fees.
That’s where things could become complicated.
Brighton have reportedly placed a substantial valuation on Minteh.
Palace are similarly reluctant to sell Sarr.
Liverpool therefore have to decide how much they are prepared to spend.
And they can’t simply buy everybody.
Barcola has already arrived
Liverpool have already made one enormous statement this summer by signing Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
His arrival gives Iraola another elite attacking option.
But Liverpool’s recruitment team clearly don’t want to stop there.
The situation surrounding Cody Gakpo could also influence what happens next.
If Gakpo leaves for Manchester City, Liverpool will need another attacker.
That could make the pursuit of Sarr or Minteh even more important.
Could Liverpool sign both?
That’s the question supporters will immediately be asking.
If both players have genuinely agreed personal terms, could Liverpool bring them both to Anfield?
It’s certainly possible in theory.
But financially, it would represent a significant investment.
Liverpool have already spent heavily this summer, particularly on Barcola and Alexander Isak.
They also have other areas of the squad that need strengthening.
So I wouldn’t assume both deals will happen.
Liverpool may simply be keeping both options open.
Personal terms don’t mean a transfer is done
This is something worth stressing.
We’ve seen countless transfer stories where a player agrees personal terms but the move ultimately doesn’t happen.
Until Liverpool agree a fee with Brighton or Palace, nothing is guaranteed.
That’s why I’d treat this report as an interesting development rather than confirmation that either player is joining.
But if the report is accurate, it’s certainly encouraging for Liverpool.
The players apparently want the move.
Now the clubs need to find common ground.
My verdict
Liverpool need more attacking options.
That’s becoming increasingly obvious.
Barcola has arrived.
Isak is now the focal point of the attack.
But with Gakpo potentially leaving and a long season ahead, Iraola needs depth.
Minteh and Sarr would both give him different qualities.
Minteh offers youth, pace and power.
Sarr offers experience, versatility and proven Premier League quality.
If both have genuinely agreed personal terms with Liverpool, the next few days could be fascinating.
Now it’s down to Richard Hughes and the Liverpool hierarchy.
Get the fees agreed.
Because if the players are already willing to come, Liverpool have potentially taken the first major step.
The clock is ticking.
And with Deadline Day approaching, this could move very quickly.
