Liverpool may have finally won the race for Bradley Barcola, but it doesn’t look like their search for attacking reinforcements is over.
The Reds have completed an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for Barcola in a deal worth up to around £123 million, making the Frenchman one of the biggest signings in Liverpool’s history.
But with Liverpool still looking for another winger, another interesting name has now emerged.
According to James Wathland, Porto’s William Gomes is a player Liverpool like and is one to keep an eye on.
And I have to admit, this is a name that immediately caught my attention.
Who is William Gomes?
Gomes is a Brazilian winger who came through the São Paulo academy before moving to Porto in January 2025.
The 20-year-old has already established himself as an exciting attacking prospect in Portugal and has experience playing at the highest level for Porto.
He’s predominantly a winger and is known for his pace and ability to take players on.
That’s exactly the sort of profile Liverpool have been looking for.
And at just 20 years old, there is plenty of room for him to develop.
Liverpool’s search isn’t finished
The interesting thing is that Liverpool have already spent enormous money on Barcola.
So why would they still be looking at another winger?
Because the squad needs more depth.
Liverpool are going to be competing in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
They can’t rely on the same few attacking players throughout the entire season.
Barcola gives Iraola another elite option.
But adding another talented winger would give Liverpool even more flexibility.
And Gomes could potentially represent a very different type of signing.
Rather than spending another enormous fee on an established superstar, Liverpool could potentially invest in a player who is still developing.
Porto have already seen his potential
Gomes isn’t simply an academy player who has barely played senior football.
He has already made a significant number of appearances for Porto and enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign.
He finished that season with 13 goals across all competitions, according to available career statistics.
That is particularly impressive for a young winger still establishing himself.
Porto also have him contracted until 2029, so they are in a strong position when it comes to his future.
Liverpool therefore shouldn’t expect an easy deal.
Could he be an alternative to another big-money move?
That’s what makes this particularly interesting.
Liverpool have already shown this summer that they are willing to spend huge money when they believe a player is worth it.
Barcola is the perfect example.
But the club also have to think about squad depth and the long-term future.
Gomes could potentially fit into that category.
A young winger with plenty of potential who could develop behind more established attacking players before eventually becoming a major player himself.
That’s the sort of recruitment Liverpool have traditionally been very good at.
Another Brazilian talent for Liverpool?
There is also something appealing about Liverpool looking towards Brazil again.
The club have had plenty of success with Brazilian players over the years, and Gomes has already experienced European football after making the move from São Paulo to Porto.
He wouldn’t be arriving completely unknown to European football.
And Liverpool would be getting a player who still has plenty of his development ahead of him.
One to keep an eye on
I wouldn’t get carried away with this one just yet.
The report is that Liverpool like Gomes, rather than that a deal is close.
There is a huge difference between monitoring a player and actively negotiating a transfer.
But with Liverpool still looking for another winger, this is certainly a name worth remembering.
William Gomes.
Brazilian.
20 years old.
Quick.
Direct.
Technically gifted.
And already playing regularly for Porto.
Liverpool have just secured one of the biggest attacking signings in their history with Barcola.
Now it appears they’re still looking for another winger.
Could William Gomes be the next name through the door at Anfield?
It’s one I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on.
