According to an exclusive developing report from Indykaila News, the Monaco midfielder has agreed personal terms with Liverpool following the collapse of his proposed move to Chelsea.
The report claims Camara has signed off on a five-year contract with Liverpool, matching the terms that had previously been agreed with Chelsea.
And if that proves to be accurate, Liverpool may have already taken a major step towards signing one of the midfielders they were unable to land during the summer.
Liverpool have already been linked with Camara
This hasn’t come completely out of nowhere.
Liverpool were interested in Camara during the summer, and reports after Chelsea’s deadline-day move collapsed indicated that the Reds had made their interest clear to Monaco.

Of course, this remains an exclusive report which has yet to receive widespread independent confirmation, so I wouldn’t treat the transfer as done just yet.
But it certainly makes the story worth watching.
The transfer fee apparently isn’t the problem
Perhaps even more interestingly, Indykaila claims that the transfer fee with Monaco is not expected to be an issue.
That would be significant.
Chelsea’s proposed deal was reportedly around £47m, although other reports have suggested Monaco could demand closer to £60m after the collapse of the Chelsea agreement.
If Liverpool are genuinely prepared to meet Monaco’s valuation, the situation could become much simpler.
And according to the latest report, Liverpool want Camara to arrive in January.
Why Camara makes sense for Liverpool
I’ve been saying for some time that Liverpool needed another midfielder.
That became even more obvious after the opening games of the season.
Liverpool have quality in midfield, but there are questions about balance and depth, particularly with a long season involving the Premier League, Champions League and domestic cups.
Camara would offer something different.
He’s athletic, aggressive and capable of contributing defensively while still being comfortable on the ball.
Most importantly, he could give Andoni Iraola another option in an area where Liverpool chose not to make a major addition during the summer.
And that decision is looking increasingly interesting.

This is where the story gets fascinating.

David Ornstein previously reported that if Alexis Mac Allister had left Liverpool, Camara was understood to have been the club’s top choice to replace him.
That doesn’t mean Liverpool will automatically sign Camara if Mac Allister stays.
But it demonstrates how highly the Senegal international has reportedly been regarded internally.
And now there could be an opportunity to bring him to Anfield anyway.
But let’s not call it done yet
