Liverpool could have another fascinating transfer target to keep an eye on.
Bayern Munich are reportedly considering including a release clause in a new contract for Michael Olise, amid continued interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
According to Christian Falk of CF Bayern, Bayern are expected to hold talks with Olise over a contract extension within the next 12 months.
And if they do agree new terms, a release clause could be included.
The catch?
It would reportedly be extremely high.
Liverpool have been linked with Olise before
This isn’t a completely new name for Liverpool supporters.
The Reds have been linked with Olise previously, and Bayern’s latest thinking could potentially keep the door open for a future move.
Olise currently has a contract with Bayern until June 2029, according to the club’s official profile.
So there is no immediate pressure on Bayern to sell.
In fact, quite the opposite.
Bayern clearly want to keep one of their most important attacking players.
Olise was voted Bayern’s Player of the Season in both his first and second campaigns at the club, while he was also named Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2025/26.
That tells you just how highly he is regarded in Munich.
Why would Bayern put a release clause in his contract?
This is where the story gets interesting.
Bayern don’t want to lose Olise.
But if the player eventually decides he wants a new challenge, the German champions could potentially protect themselves by setting a huge release clause.
Reports suggest figures between €150m and €250m could be considered.
That would be an enormous amount of money.
But from Bayern’s perspective, it would provide some protection.
If a club eventually activates the clause, Bayern would receive a massive fee that could then be reinvested into the squad.
It would essentially be Bayern saying:
You can have him — but it will cost you an absolute fortune.
And this is where Liverpool come in
For me, this is where Liverpool supporters should pay attention.
Liverpool have just spent heavily on Bradley Barcola, but there is still a question mark over the right side of the attack.
Barcola is predominantly a left-sided player.
Cody Gakpo is also more naturally suited to the left.
Rio Ngumoha is another left-sided option, while Victor Muñoz can operate on the right but is still developing.
Liverpool therefore still don’t have an obvious long-term replacement for the kind of influence Mohamed Salah provided from the right.
And that’s exactly where Olise could be incredibly interesting.
Olise would be some signing
Olise is predominantly a right winger and has developed into one of Europe’s most productive attacking players.
Bayern describe him as a key attacking player with excellent dribbling and outstanding qualities as a provider.
That’s precisely the profile Liverpool could use.
Imagine having Michael Olise on the right and Bradley Barcola on the left, with Florian Wirtz operating centrally and Alexander Isak leading the line.
That would be some attack.
Olise could provide the creativity from the right that Liverpool have been missing.
He can beat defenders.
He can create chances.
He can deliver dangerous balls into the box.
And he can score himself.
Most importantly, he would give Liverpool another way of attacking opponents.
But Liverpool would have to pay BIG
This is where the excitement needs to be tempered.
If Bayern eventually put a €200m-plus release clause into Olise’s contract, Liverpool would have to decide whether he is worth that kind of investment.
And that’s a completely different question.
Liverpool have already spent enormous money on their squad.
They spent around £123m on Barcola and £125m on Isak, while Wirtz also represented a huge investment.
The club can’t simply spend hundreds of millions on every player it likes.
There has to be a limit.
But would I want Liverpool to try?
Absolutely.
If Olise becomes available in the future, Liverpool should be in the conversation.
He’s exactly the sort of player I would want the club looking at.
Young enough to have years ahead of him.
Experienced enough to make an immediate impact.
Premier League proven.
Comfortable on the right.
Creative.
Technical.
And capable of producing goals and assists.
The fact that Bayern are even considering a release clause makes this particularly interesting.
Because if Liverpool genuinely wanted him, at least there could eventually be a clear figure required to get the deal done.
👀 Real Madrid are another problem
Liverpool wouldn’t have this opportunity to themselves.
Real Madrid have also been repeatedly linked with Olise.
However, there is an important caveat here.
Real Madrid officially stated in June that they had not made direct or indirect contact with Olise, his representatives or people around him, despite reports of interest.
So we shouldn’t present a Madrid transfer as inevitable.
But their interest demonstrates the level of player we’re talking about.
Liverpool would almost certainly face competition if Olise ever became genuinely available.
Keep an eye on this one
I’m certainly not suggesting Liverpool are about to sign Michael Olise.
They’re not.
And there is no indication that Bayern are actively looking to sell him.
Quite the opposite — they want to keep him.
But if Bayern offer Olise a new contract containing a huge release clause, it could eventually give Liverpool a route into the conversation.
And personally, I’d love to see it happen.
Liverpool need to find a long-term answer on the right.
Olise could be that answer.
Barcola on one side.
Olise on the other.
Wirtz behind Isak.
Now that would be some attack.
The price could be frightening.
But if Michael Olise ever becomes available, Liverpool should at least be asking the question.
Could this be the next big transfer battle for the Reds?
