Liverpool may have already signed Bradley Barcola, but it appears the club haven’t completely forgotten about Michael Olise.
In fact, according to the latest information, Olise remains Liverpool’s dream right-wing target.
The big difference is that Bayern Munich were not prepared to consider selling him this summer.
That could change next year.
And if it does, Liverpool could be waiting.
Olise remains the dream
Liverpool have been linked with Olise for some time.
The former Crystal Palace winger has developed into one of the most exciting attacking players in Europe since moving to Bayern Munich, and Liverpool have long been credited with an interest.
Liverpool’s own media watch previously reported that Bayern wanted to tie Olise down to a lucrative new contract amid interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid.
This summer, however, a move was never really realistic.
Bayern repeatedly made it clear that they wanted to keep their star winger.
And no formal offer actually arrived for Olise during the window. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has since confirmed that.
But now the situation appears to be changing.
Bayern could be open to a sale next summer
This is the part that Liverpool supporters should be watching.
Dreesen has now admitted that Bayern cannot guarantee Olise will still be at the club beyond next summer.
That is a significant change in tone.
Bayern were effectively shutting down the possibility of an exit this summer.
Now, the door appears to be slightly open for 2027.
That doesn’t mean Bayern are actively trying to sell him.
Far from it.
Olise remains hugely important to them.
But if a massive offer arrives next summer, the conversation could be very different.
And Liverpool could be looking at £135m+
This is where things get interesting.
The current feeling is that it could take around £135 million or more to persuade Bayern to sell.
That would be an enormous investment.
Liverpool have already shown this summer that they are willing to spend huge money on elite attacking talent, having brought in Alexander Isak and Bradley Barcola alongside Florian Wirtz.
So the question isn’t simply whether Liverpool can spend that kind of money.
It’s whether they would believe Olise is worth it.
For me, that’s a much more difficult question.
Barcola doesn’t necessarily end the Olise dream
Liverpool signing Barcola doesn’t automatically mean Olise is no longer required.
Barcola predominantly operates from the left, while Olise is at his best on the right.
And that could be exactly what Liverpool need.
The Reds have already shown a tendency to favour the left side of their attack, with Cody Gakpo and Barcola offering serious options there.
The right side is a different story.
Liverpool need someone capable of taking responsibility in that position.
Someone who can receive the ball, beat his man, create chances and consistently threaten the opposition.
Olise fits that description perfectly.
Imagine Olise on Liverpool’s right
This is where I start getting excited.
Imagine Liverpool’s attack with:
Barcola — Wirtz — Olise
and Alexander Isak through the middle.
That’s some serious attacking talent.
Olise would give Liverpool something slightly different.
He’s not simply a winger who wants to sprint behind the defence.
He can come inside.
He can create.
He can deliver dangerous passes.
He can score.
And he has already shown at Bayern that he can perform at the highest level.
Liverpool would suddenly have genuine quality on both flanks.
But £135m+ is a huge gamble
This is where I’d have to be careful.
I absolutely like Olise.
But £135 million-plus is serious money.
Liverpool cannot simply keep signing £100m-plus players every summer without considering the overall balance of the squad.
There are still other areas that may need strengthening.
The right-back position needs monitoring.
The midfield may need another player.
And Liverpool will eventually have to think about replacing some of their older stars.
So even if Olise becomes available, Liverpool would have to decide whether he’s the right way to spend that money.
Liverpool should keep watching
For now, I wouldn’t expect Liverpool to make a move.
This is a story for next summer, not this one.
But that doesn’t make it unimportant.
Liverpool should absolutely keep monitoring Olise’s situation.
Bayern’s stance appears to have softened.
The player remains one of Europe’s outstanding attacking talents.
And Liverpool’s need for greater creativity from the right hasn’t disappeared.
In fact, the club’s recruitment of Barcola could make an eventual Olise move even more interesting because it would give Liverpool genuine balance across the front line.
The dream target?
For me, Michael Olise is exactly the type of player Liverpool should be looking at.
Young enough to remain a long-term asset.
Experienced enough to make an immediate impact.
Capable of playing on the right.
Creative.
Technically excellent.
And already proven at the highest level.
The problem is the price.
£135m+ is a staggering amount of money.
But if Bayern really do become willing to sell next summer, Liverpool should at least be in the conversation.
Barcola on the left.
Olise on the right.
Wirtz between the lines.
Isak through the middle.
Now THAT would be an attack.
Liverpool’s dream right-wing target may not be available this summer.
But if Bayern’s stance really has changed, Michael Olise could become one of the biggest transfer stories of next summer.
