I can see why Liverpool are keeping an eye on Kevin Schade.
The Brentford forward has started the season brilliantly and is becoming one of those players who is getting harder and harder to ignore.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool and Arsenal are thought to be the keenest clubs watching the 24-year-old, with Chelsea and Tottenham also having an interest. Brentford have already opened talks with Schade about a new contract as they try to keep hold of him.
And when you look at what he’s been doing, it’s easy to understand why.
Schade has scored three goals in his first five Premier League appearances this season, helping Brentford make an unbeaten start. He’s started every league game and has played 448 minutes.
That’s a pretty good way to get noticed.
He’s a nightmare to defend
The first thing that stands out with Schade is his pace.
He’s quick.
Really quick.
And he doesn’t just have pace for the sake of it. He uses it to get behind defenders, stretch teams and attack space.
That’s something Liverpool could certainly use.
The Reds have plenty of technical quality in the forward areas, but there is something to be said for having somebody who can simply pick the ball up and run at a defence.
Schade can do that.
He can play from the left, operate centrally and has also been used in different attacking positions during his time at Brentford.
He’s not the finished article, but he’s becoming a very dangerous Premier League forward.
And he’s doing it consistently enough now for the bigger clubs to start paying attention.
His numbers are getting better
Schade joined Brentford from Freiburg in 2023 for a reported £20 million and initially had a difficult time with injuries.
But last season he really started to establish himself.
He played every Premier League game for Brentford in 2024/25 and scored 11 goals, including a hat-trick against Leicester.
Now he’s taken another step forward.
His three goals in five games this season have taken his overall Premier League record to 24 goals in 107 appearances, according to Opta’s current figures.
He’s also back in the Germany setup.
And there is a nice Liverpool connection there now.
Jürgen Klopp started Schade against the Netherlands in his first game as Germany manager.
So Liverpool’s interest is coming at an interesting time.
Schade isn’t some unknown prospect anymore.
He’s becoming an established Premier League attacker.
Would he fit at Liverpool?
That’s the question I’d be asking.
And I think he could.
Liverpool have been adding different types of attackers to the squad, and Schade would bring something slightly different.
He’s direct.
He’s powerful.
He’s quick.
He can attack from wide areas but isn’t afraid of getting into the box.
And I think there’s still more to come from him.
At 24, he’s also at an age where Liverpool wouldn’t be signing a teenager and hoping everything eventually comes together.
They’d be buying a player who has already shown he can perform in the Premier League.
That’s important.
Of course, there’s a massive difference between being an exciting forward at Brentford and becoming a Liverpool player.
The expectations are completely different.
At Anfield, you’re expected to perform every week.
You’re competing for trophies.
You’re playing Champions League football.
And every mistake gets magnified.
But Schade looks like the sort of player who wouldn’t be frightened by the challenge.
Brentford aren’t going to make it easy
This is where Liverpool’s interest could get complicated.
Schade’s current contract runs until 2028, but Brentford are already trying to extend it.
That tells you everything.
They know there is interest.
They know his value is rising.
And they don’t want to lose control of the situation.
If Schade keeps scoring and keeps performing like this, his price isn’t going to come down.
Liverpool also aren’t the only club watching him.
Arsenal are reportedly very interested, while Chelsea and Tottenham have also been linked.
So this could become a proper transfer battle if the interest develops further.
I wouldn’t be against it
I’m not going to pretend Schade would walk into Liverpool’s team.
He wouldn’t.
There is too much competition in those attacking positions.
But that’s not necessarily the point.
Liverpool need a strong squad.
They need different options.
And when you’re trying to compete on several fronts, having another forward who can change the way you attack a game is valuable.
Imagine bringing Schade off the bench against a tired defence.
That pace could be frightening.
Or having him start against a team playing a high defensive line.
Suddenly Liverpool have another way of hurting opponents.
And I think that’s what makes this interesting.
Liverpool aren’t just watching a player because he’s scored three goals in five games.
They’re watching somebody who has been improving for a while and now looks ready to take another step.
Whether that step eventually takes him to Anfield is another question.
For now, Liverpool are watching.
But if Kevin Schade keeps playing like this, I suspect they’ll be watching very closely.
Because sometimes you can see a transfer coming before the player himself becomes a household name.
Schade might be heading towards that point now.
