One of the things I am really looking forward to over the coming months is seeing Hugo Ekitike, Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley finally return to full fitness and fight for their places in this Liverpool team.
All three have suffered frustrating injuries, and it is easy to forget just how much potential they have when they are spending so much time on the sidelines.
But there is something particularly exciting about the prospect of seeing these three players develop under Andoni Iraola.
The Liverpool head coach has already shown an ability to improve players, bring greater intensity into their performances and get more out of individuals. So just how good could Ekitike, Leoni and Bradley become under his guidance?
I certainly think there is plenty to look forward to.
Hugo Ekitike Could Become a Huge Player for Liverpool
Ekitike’s injury has been a massive disappointment, particularly after the excitement surrounding his arrival and what he could bring to Liverpool’s attack.
The French forward has the movement, technical ability and attacking instincts to cause defenders serious problems. He offers something different in the final third and has the potential to become an important part of Iraola’s plans.
What interests me most is how much further he could develop under this manager.
Iraola demands intensity, movement and hard work from his attacking players. Ekitike has the tools to fit that approach, and with the right coaching and regular football, there is no reason why he cannot become an even more dangerous forward.
Liverpool must be patient with his recovery, especially after such a serious Achilles injury. Nobody should be putting unnecessary pressure on him to return before he is ready.
But I cannot wait to see him back in a Liverpool shirt.
Giovanni Leoni Could Be a Future Defensive Leader
Leoni is another player I am desperate to see back on the pitch.
The young Italian suffered a devastating ACL injury on his Liverpool debut, which was an incredibly cruel way to begin his Anfield career.
At just 19, he has so much time to develop, and Liverpool clearly saw something special in him when they brought him to the club from Parma.
His physical presence, composure and potential make him an exciting defensive prospect.
I would love to see what Iraola can do with him. The manager has an opportunity to work closely with a young defender and develop his understanding of the game, his positioning and his confidence.
Liverpool need quality defensive options for the long term, and Leoni could eventually become a very important player.
The priority, though, is getting him fully fit and making sure there are no further setbacks.
Conor Bradley Has Everything to Become a Top Right-Back
Bradley is perhaps the player whose return I am most excited about seeing in action.
We have already seen what he can bring to Liverpool. He is aggressive, energetic, committed in the tackle and always willing to get forward.
He also has that fighting mentality supporters love.
His injury has been a major blow, but I still believe he has the potential to become one of Liverpool’s leading right-backs.
Under Iraola, I would be fascinated to see how much further he can develop. The manager’s high-intensity style could suit Bradley’s energy and willingness to press, while his attacking game could become even more effective.
There will be competition for places, particularly with the other options Liverpool have at right-back, but that is exactly what a squad competing at the highest level needs.
Bradley should not simply be looking to get back into the team. He should be looking to make that position his own.
Iraola Could Bring the Best Out of All Three
This is what makes their eventual returns so exciting.
We are not talking about three players who are simply coming back to provide extra bodies in the squad. We are talking about three young footballers with the potential to make a significant difference to Liverpool over the coming seasons.
Ekitike could develop into a devastating attacking option, Leoni could become a major presence at centre-back, and Bradley could establish himself as a top-class right-back.
Iraola has already demonstrated that he wants intensity, commitment and competition throughout his squad. These three players have the qualities to embrace that challenge.
Of course, injuries can have a lasting impact, and none of us should assume that they will immediately return at their previous level. Their recoveries need to be handled carefully, and they will need time to build up their fitness and confidence.
But imagine having all three fully fit, competing for places and improving under the same manager.
Liverpool Have Plenty to Look Forward To
There is understandably plenty of attention on Liverpool’s immediate results and the players currently available to Iraola.
But I think supporters should also be excited about what is waiting further down the line.
Ekitike, Leoni and Bradley could all have important roles to play in the next chapter of this Liverpool team.
I just hope they can put their injury problems behind them, get back to full fitness and give Iraola a selection headache.
The potential is there. The talent is there. Now it is about getting them back on the pitch and seeing what they can achieve.
I genuinely wonder just how good these three could become under Iraola. Liverpool could have three very exciting players to look forward to – and I cannot wait to see them fighting for their places again.
