1. Curtis Jones isn’t a right-back
Curtis Jones was badly exposed defensively today and Chelsea kept getting in behind him all game.
That’s not really his fault because he’s not a right-back.
For me, Joe Gomez should’ve started there and Jones should’ve been in midfield where he’s far more effective.
2. Liverpool still can’t build on taking the lead
Same story again.
Liverpool FC started brightly, scored early and then slowly let Chelsea back into the game instead of pushing on.
Once Chelsea settled, Liverpool struggled badly for long periods.
It keeps happening this season.
3. Jones should be in midfield ahead of Gravenberch or Mac Allister
Honestly, I’d rather see Jones in midfield than either Ryan Gravenberch or Alexis Mac Allister right now.
Neither have been consistent enough all season.
At least Jones brings energy and tries to drive the team forward.
Too often Liverpool’s midfield just feels slow and easy to play through.
4. Liverpool only score through mistakes or moments of magic
Liverpool still don’t create enough clear chances.
Most goals lately either come from opposition errors or someone producing something special.
Today it was a brilliant strike from Gravenberch because outside of that Liverpool didn’t create loads.
That’s becoming a massive problem.
5. Ngumoha off again despite being Liverpool’s brightest attacker
Rio Ngumoha was probably Liverpool’s most dangerous player again and yet he was taken off.
A lot of fans inside Anfield were frustrated with that.
It really does feel like Arne Slot doesn’t fully trust him yet.
Meanwhile Cody Gakpo stayed on despite hardly getting involved for most of the game before eventually coming off later.
