Slot Insists Liverpool Standards Haven’t Dropped — Fans May Disagree

9 May

Arne Slot has tried to calm concerns around standards slipping at Liverpool FC after recent comments from Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk got supporters talking.

Slot said he completely agrees that standards are important at a club like Liverpool and insisted he isn’t worried about them dropping going forward.

But if we’re being honest, a lot of fans probably don’t see it the same way.

Because this season hasn’t looked like the Liverpool people became used to over the last few years.

Too many flat performances, too many games where the intensity just hasn’t been there and too many moments where the team looked mentally weak.

That’s why supporters are questioning things.

I think that’s also why Salah and Van Dijk’s comments got so much attention.

When senior players start talking about standards, fans naturally wonder whether there’s more going on behind the scenes.

Of course Slot is never going to publicly say standards have dropped badly.

No manager would.

But supporters can only judge what they’re watching every week, and for a lot of people, this side simply hasn’t looked close to the level Liverpool should be at.

The important thing now is next season.

Because fans will stay patient if they can see progress and signs the team is moving forward again.

But if things stay the same, these conversations about standards are only going to get louder.
